Bob Marley.
Really can't fathom that no talent bore's popularity..
Seriously, Man?
He is THE face of reggae. That's not a bad musical genre to carry the banner for. His social commentary and political awareness in his lyrics made him the Bob Dylan of Jamaica. He and the Wailers wrote hit after hit after hit.
He is a musical and pop culture icon that has transcended the Caribbean and the 1970s.

Marley "influenced" everything about the music industry except the actual music. There is much much better raggae to listen to and Marley just sounds like an boring chode in my magnanimous and exceedingly humble opinion.

My point is these threads are fricking terrible and stupid. We get this thread once a month. Why not talk about music that you like?

Abba's pretty overrated too, likely gonna lump them in with the Bee Gees.

Screw Abba the BG's were bad arse man. As a long time drummer way back when I'd warm up doing rudiments on a pad jamming to Staying Alive before every show.
Songs you might not have thought were written by The Bee Gees
"Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You" by Teri DeSario
"Buried Treasure" by Kenny Rogers (backing vocals The Gatlin Brothers)
"Chain Reaction" by Diana Ross
"Come on Over" by Olivia Newton-John
"Emotion" by Samantha Sang and by Destiny's Child
"Gilbert Green" by Gerry Marsden
"Grease" by Frankie Valli
"Guilty" and "Woman in Love" by Barbra Streisand
"Heartbreaker" & "All the Love in the World" by Dionne Warwick
"Hold On to My Love" by Jimmy Ruffin
"I Will Be There" by Tina Turner
"If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman
"Immortality" by Celine Dion
"Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton
"Morning of My Life" by Abi and Esther Ofarim and by Mary Hopkin
"Only One Woman" by The Marbles
"Rest Your Love on Me" by Conway Twitty
"Sacred Trust" by One True Voice
"Warm Ride" by Graham Bonnet and by Rare Earth

Phil Collins' solo crap.
A few years back I couldn't go out in public without hearing "Against All Odds"

I'm sort of with you about Neil Young--and like you, I'm a fan. It's just that, in my opinion, a lot of his music falls flat in terms of lyrics. I just think he's written a whole lot of lyrically lame songs, I don't think he's an especially good lyricist.
However ... I love enough of his stuff to be a fan. Plus I have HUGE RESPECT for Neil for doing things his way and not caving into to the dictates of the record industry, popular tastes and trends, the expectations of fans, etc. That alone is quite an accomplishment for a guy who's been at it 50 years now.

everything about Elvis was rooted in AA culture - his food, his clothes, living in the projects
Can definitely tell you and your yankee brethren from Mizzou do not belong in the SEC. What you jackasses consider Soul Food, is guess what, just good ole fashion southern cooking. Also, especially in those days, most people in the south were poor and lived in shite housing. You make it sound like Elvis was the original Eminem. What a dumbass!!!!

Then why come into the thread and read it?
Serious question.
There are lots of threads here that are totally uninteresting to me. I just don't open them.

Nirvana - set rock music back a decade by catering to shitty musicianship plus their music wasn't even good.
