Jerry Cantrell is the difference.

Now I agree that Cantrell is the best guitarist in this broader discussion - maybe the best guitarist out of the Pacific NW ever while we're on the subject.

But the AIC rhythm section was good, not great. Cameron is quietly one of the best drummers of the past 30 years. When Staley was alive - I would say vocalists were a push with the caveat that Cornell would have been able to pull of AIC songs better than Staley would have been able to do Soundgarden songs.

But Soundgarden rhythm section is one of the best ever.

So Soundgarden had some influence on a few of the bands that followed them in the Nineties? Which ones were influenced the most?

4th of July is a great, great song. I love the slow, heavy stuff that Soundgarden recorded.

I liked a lot of Soundgarden's later stuff, but my go-to is Badmotorfinger as it was my first exposure to them. I have worn out so many copies of it over the years...

as far as AIC vs. Soundgarden...knee-jerk says SG outclasses musically, but Cantrell and Staley's vocal harmonies, which are present on almost every song, flow so naturally and are so hauntingly beautiful...it's apples and oranges almost. Cornell's range and power are superior, but no one, and I mean NOONE could "Oh Yeah" like Staley.

Cornell and Andrew Wood were always the future superstars/ reigning Royalty of the local scene, and every one of the Seattle bands were blown away that "Kurt's Band" was the one that went mega-sonic back in the day...including Kurt.

I got the "Pop" appeal of Nirvana, and the flashes of genius in those 2 albums, but musically they were at the bottom of very talent-laden barrel...Dave Grohl being the exception.

Cornell and Andrew Wood

Speaking of these two....

Say Hello 2 Heaven

I never wanted to write these words down for you
with the pages of phrases of all the things we'll never do
So I blow out the candle
and I put you to bed
Since you can't say to me now
how the dogs broke your bone
there's just one thing left to be said

So say hello to heaven

What an amazing song
