Stumbled across this last night. I haven't heard this one in a while. One of their best songs in my opinion and great video visuals to go along with it.

I really think Soundgarden may have been the most talented band to come out of that era. Neck and neck with Nirvana. But all those groups were great during the early and mid Nineties.

You drinking baw? Soundgarden outclasses Nirvana - almost across the board, talent wise. Forget the fact that Cornell is a serviceable rhythm guitarist (because Soundgarden is a 4-piece). Before Nirvana fans say anything, clearly Nirvana is more influential, but any band that comes out of the Pac NW gets the grunge label - AIC and Soundgarden were more traditional heavy acts, rather than grunge. Of the ones that hit it big, only Pearl Jam really fits the grunge mold (other than Nirvana, of course).

That out of the way:

Vocals: Cornell >>> Cobain

Guitar: Thayil >>> Cobain

Bass: Shepard >> Novoselic

Drums: Push (or Grohl maybe a nose ahead of Cameron - and I think a lot of Grohl as a drummer).

I'm not sure. I watched a couple of live Nirvana shows on youtube last night from Reading Festival and Rome and I had forgotten how good those guys were. Cobain gets short shrift as a guitarist, in my opinion. He was absolutely shredding it at those shows. I will give you Cornell as a vocalist. He definitely has more range. I think bass and drumming it is a push. Both bands were and are incredible. I guess because they are about the same age as myself, I can just hear so much how they were influenced by a wide variety of the music we grew up with in the Seventies and Eighties. Both bands are a perfect amalgam of Seventies and Eighties music of a variety of genres, the foremost being heavy metal, hard classic rock and punk rock.

Cornell alone makes Soundgarden better than Nirvana.

One of my favorite tracks of all time. I vividly remember jamming that during high school. Really good album too, down on the upside.

I hadn't heard it in about five years. But every time you listen to it along with the video, it strikes you as to how great of a song it is.

Amazing that his voice aged so well. Songbook is incredible.

His Zepplin cover of Thank You is all that a cover can be.

I wouldn't even compare Nirvana to Soundgarden...outclassed in every way.

Soundgarden, AIC, PJ >>>>>>>>>Nirvana.

AIC neck and neck w Soundgarden alot closer to truth.

To me, Cornell's finest moment was his work with Temple of the Dog. The vocals throughout the entire album are amazing on every level.

I like his new folk-driven style and the single from the 13 Hours movie is great.

His first solo album Euphoria Mourning is highly under appreciated.

Have you heard what Cornell did with Stay With me Baby? It was on HBO's Vinyl the other night. WOW.

Alice in Chains was easily the best Seattle band. The most talented as well. You can't listen to the album "Dirt" and find anything from Soundgarden, PJ, or Nirvana that compares.

Jerry Cantrell is the difference.

Soundgarden at Voodoo a few years back was one of the best rock shows I've ever been too. Superunknown is one of my most favorite rock albums of all time.
