Thoughts?

Their best lineup so far IMO. More a long the lines of the first year and definitely a huge step up from their sophomore let down last year.

Alabama Shakes and Sturgill alone will make it worth the price for me. Widespread and Waka Flocka will make it a hell of a party.

In the future I'd love to see them get Alabama Shakes and St. Paul in the same year as well as bring back Lee Bains to fully get the Alabama vibe going.

Would've like to have seen Dexateens on there for real AL vibe

That would be cool but the Dexateens rarely play live shows anymore. I'm partial to Lee Bains & the Glory Fires anyway, and if you remember he got his start as a Dexateen.

But shite, let's just throw in DBT while we're at it and make this thing an Alabama all-star show I'm game

Better than Jazz fest and I have never heard of this

Only a 2 day fest, which is awesome

Sturgill, Run the Jewels, Alabama Shakes, John Moreland, Spoon, Charles Bradley, Tycho

Would be the shows I'd have to catch. I might have to get tickets for this.

Nathaniel Rateliff is awesome. Never heard of him until I saw him at Jazz Fest last year.

Yea he's solid as well. I'd catch his set if it wouldn't conflict with any of the others I listed. Maybe some already do. That would suck

Its only the 3rd year. First year was 2015 and it was awesome. St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Avett Brothers, Band of Horses, Primus, Modest Mouse, Cage the Elephant, Young the Giant, Sturgill, Big Gigantic, Manchester Orchestra, Tyler the Creator, Lee Bains, Judah & The Lion... looking back that actually may have been better.

Last year was good, but not as good for my tastes.

Sloss Furnace is also just a really cool environment for an event like this. The only bad thing is July heat in Alabama.

Love this guy. Almost forgot about him because he's so far down the list. Actually learned about him on this board a few years ago same time I learned about Sturgill. I knew he's popular here so I meant to mention him in the OP

They did a really good job in 2015 of not conflicting any major acts by much. The set up is also super convenient for getting between acts because the only stage that's really away from the others they used for hip hop, electronic, and smaller acts. Waka Flocka would probably be the only super popular act that may make people have to really choose, if I had to guess.

If Anderson Paak and Vulfpeck were on there as well I'd buy a ticket right now

Sturgill is my favorite artist so I might go anyway

Biggest thing that has given me pause in going to this. That, and I've seen all the big acts already, save for RTJ. I went the first year, and even though it was a relatively mild weekend for July in Alabama, it was still pretty miserable. I don't deal well with long exposures to heat unless there's a body of water to jump in.

Pretty solid lineup though. Were it in May or October, I'd be all over it.

That's a good lineup for only having hard rock bands. I never heard of that fest, but I turned 12 in 2003 The only other music festivals I knew of in Birmingham before Sloss were City Stages and Crawfish Boil, and obviously neither of those were at Sloss Furnace. Secret Stages too if you want to count to that.

I was given a free VIP ticket for Saturday so looks like I'm going for at least part of the day. Good chance I'll get a Sunday one, which is good because there are more Sunday acts I want to see than Saturday.

I'm always amazed at the people who get free VIP tickets for music fests. Makes it completely worthless to buy VIP, but music fests are tone deaf to what they're doing so they keep handing them out like candy.
