John Wetton has died at the age of 67.

Wetton was born in 1949 and played with a variety of bands including Family, Mogul Thrash, Uriah Heep, Roxy Music, Wishbone Ash and King Crimson.

The news was confirmed by his manager Martin Darvill, who said that the cause had been colon cancer. Wetton had undergone major surgery in 2015 to have a one-kilo malignant mass removed from his abdomen

Damn - this one hits home. His rich, smoky, plaintive vocal deliveries with KIng Crimson always made me melancholy. Fantastic creator of bass lines too.

Damn...how did I miss that? I was usually pretty well plugged into stuff going on at The Kingfish.

Had to have been 1978 after the album UK dropped. I was gone from BR in 1979. Lots of great acts rolled through the Kingfish in the mid-late 70's.

Yeah I should have been all over that. I was a big fan of UK when that album came out. Maybe I was there and just don't remember.

That was a cool place. My favorite time at the Kingfish was when Zappa played a cameo there one night.

Asia was kind of this weird marriage between disparate progressive acts. I mean, Wetton came out of King Crimson and U.K., Palmer from Atomic Rooster and ELP, Howe and Downes came from Yes (Downes was also in The Buggles for the Video Killed the Radio Star era).

But Asia was much more of a mainstream rock act in the 80s - you could hear the progressive influence, particularly in the arrangement and production, but the songs were just straight 3 to 5 minute rock songs along familiar themes. And one of my favorite acts of that era, as well.

On my cell but I believe there was a thread on some of the bands that rolled through the Kingfish. I was stoned crazy for several of those years.
