My favorite version of Purple Rain ever:

Purple Rain Syracuse '85

Prince does a two minute guitar solo in the begining, then does an epic 7 minute solo at the end. Simply amazing!

Prince the blues masterLINK

For anyone who still doubts Prince belongs on the all-time list of great guitarists. Any genre or style of music he made it his. This is a standard blues jam...that he imprints his own style on and elevates to new heights. Totally worthy of Hendrix, and all the others that came after and honored him (including SRV).

Watch til the end.

That was bad arse

That was a pleasure to watch.

When I was in high school (late 80s) and playing guitar in my first band, I laughed at our bass player for making the statement, "You know who's a phenomenal guitarist? Prince!"
Understand, this was while we were watching a video of SRV at Austin City Limits...

We all laughed at him, until he shows up with some Prince concert footage of his sister's the next day.
I've been eating crow over that ever since.
His rendition of Red House in your link was similar to what I saw on that old video...shifted my view of him for the rest of my life.

Manic Monday is a great song written by Prince.

I also like The Most Beautiful Girl In The World and 1999.

Well, there's more. That's a Hohner knockoff MadCat, not a Fender/Squire (of any variation, American, Mexi, China, etc.). He got one (probably that one, maybe not because he tossed it at the end) - in the late 70s/early 80s and ultimately acquired several identical ones over the years. He kept the stock pickups for years. It was rumored he switched to Kinmann pickups, but other reports say he was using Fender noiseless pickups by the time of the George Harrison tribute/HOF show.

"When You Were Mine" followed closely by "Baby, I'm A Star." Picking my favorite Prince song/performance is like picking a favorite pro baseball team and being from a college town. When I first started getting into Prince, "Mine" made such a huge impression on me with it being such a departure from his earlier funk sound and would've been a hit had he released it as a single. "Star" is just flatout awesome and makes me wanna dance every time I hear it.
