Tool- Schism
Nookie- Limp Bizcuit
Puddle of Mudd- Control
Saliva- Click click boom
Mudvayne - Happy
Manson - Beautiful People
Slipknot- Duality
Rage against the Machine- Bulls on Parade
Dope - Die Motherfricker
Hurt -Ten ton brick

On the lighter side but I like to build from start to finish. If you can't tell from my list, I am a tad on the old side.

Iron Maiden - Hallowed be Thy Name
Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Metallica - The Call of Ktulu
King Diamond - One Down Two to Go
Judas Priest - Riding on the Wind
Dio - Holy Diver
Scorpions - Steamrock Fever
Slayer - Raining Blood
Pantera - Cemetery Gates

Cut it off at one song per artist...otherwise it would be full of Maiden and Sabbath

I'm more of a historian:

Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf*

Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Stone Cold Crazy - Queen*

Let it Go - Def Leppard

Ace of Spades ( ) - Motorhead

(Either 2 Minutes to Midnight, Ace's High or The Trooper ) - Iron Maiden

You Got Another Thing Comin' - Judas Priest

Master of Puppets - Metallica

Peace Sells - Megadeath

(Not sure if I go Cemetary Gates or Cowboys from Hell) - Pantera

* - examples of metal songs by non-metal acts for completeness

(I tried to find room for a Slayer track in there, but I'd likely have to cut Steppenwolf to do that, defeating my historical theme - they would get honorable mention with either Raining Blood or Seasons in the Abyss).

With my alternatives listed, it should be obvious I did that as well.

Otherwise, it would be a lot of Maiden, Priest, and Sabbath.

I love Rob and Co., but one of the 10 ESSENTIAL tracks? Really?

By the way, I love the premise of this post, but it's impossible for me to choose the best track among bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc., let alone determine the ten essential tracks in the entire genre.

High 'n Dry is one of the best metal records that metal snobs refuse to recognize.

Deal with it.
