I tend to stick to acoustic recently, but I got a nice custom electric built by Warmoth.

Yes, I like to shred. I like playing 7-strings. I like to play heavier stuff. Not like death metal or anything. I just like some low B riffs. It's just something to ease the stress of the medical field. You should be able to relate to that.

Once again, you prove you only care about $$$ and not the actual music.

Oh what instrument do you play?

The point was with a custom guitar, you get it just for you.

If you think about selling it later, you won't get much for it.

Something to think about with warmouth guitars.

It's great though because you can customize your guitar or bass however you want to

I bought it several years ago for myself, not for resale.

IMHO, the Kahler was the ultimate floating trem if you are going to palm mute. On top of that the rollers on the Kahler made it less succeptible to string pops when pulling up.

Dollar for dollar I would put schecter against ibanez, but like a few have said, it's all a preference deal. Yngwie dives and uses his trem constantly on old 60s strats and it works for him. Petrucci uses standard trems and locking nuts since leaving ibanez while multitudes of guitarists have used floyds and their successors for decades. A good standard trem blocked back and locking nuts are all anyone needs unless you require flutter for specific songs.

All good points. I thought a lot about buying a Kahler trem. I remember my brother's friend who was a major shredder had a Charvel with a Kahler that was badass. I loved the feel of it. From what I've heard, a lot of people complain about it not staying in tune. I don't know what your experience has been. You can definitely get that nice growl with a quick flip.

I don't know if you've seen the new Ibanez's but they have the zero point system trems with a locking bar which can be easily removed. And it has a roller where you can change the tension with your thumb. That's why I want to go with Ibanez. I've considered Dean Rusty Cooley, but I really don't want the active EMG707's. I've never really been a fan of artist series but I bought the Schecter Jeff Loomis and I really like it. You can get a lot of guitar for less money going with Schecter. I just love the Ibanez Wizard neck. The Schecter is a nice change of pace/tone for me.

I think I'm going with the S5427 and I'm going to throw some BKP Painkiller zebra pups in it. It's going to look on the second from the left.

You're forgetting about a couple of things:
1) the tone the player wants
2) the way the neck will play
3) the number of strings he wants on his neck without going custom shop

Will a strat be a more versatile guitar for someone who likes to play in lots of genres? Probably.
Will the wizard neck and tall frets lend the ibanez to tapping and shredding? Probably.

I have an older mid-upperish Ibanez RG series, and I get tons of interesting tones out of it. It's one of the most versatile guitars I own.

And then as far as quality, upper-end Ibanez is pretty well-made stuff.

1) This guitar should sound pretty good with a Mahogany body. The stock V77/87 IBZ pickups sound OK, but I have another IBZ RG7620 with similar, if not identical, pups. Not sure how much they've changed in 10 years. That's why I'm going to order some Bareknuckle Painkiller zebras with it.
2) Wizard neck. Badass
3) Number of strings = 7. That's just what I prefer playing.

I agree that Fenders are great guitars. I own a cheap one (my sig pic) which I swapped the bridge single coil pup with a hotrail so I could get a humbucker sound. I love it so much that I put a huge LSU Eye of the Tiger/Fleur de Lis sticker on it.

I just love IBZ necks and my RG7620 is versatile like yours. I get some great clean, vintage, and hard rock sounds out of it. I expect this S-series 7-string to be the same way...at least I hope so. I really would like to start recording again. With garageband for macs and iPads, there's really no excuse not to. It is so easy to get your ideas down. I just wish I had more time to do it.

Good luck in your quest, "hopeful doc."

The J Custom Ibanez's are the shite; i dont care what anyone says

I'd throw PRS in there with the standards too.

I came across a Presonus Firebox (not firestudio mobile) on eBay for around $50 recently. If you've got a FireWire port, I recommend it. Otherwise, their audiobox is a USB interface that is relatively cheap but useful for this kind of thing as well.

I have a line6 UX2 which I never used until recently. It was really more than I needed because I wanted a simple USB interface for my guitar. Plus, when I bought it, Line6 was struggling with the Mac driver. It was more trouble that it was worth so I bought a much simpler interface to use with Garageband.

Later, I went to buy some Alesis monitor speakers that were on sale and I wanted to get the ones with a USB port, but I accidentally bought the analog speakers. I hooked it up to my UX2 and it works beautifully as an output interface.
