Nirvana - best acoustic record ever?

I liked them upon release of Nevermind, but I never was a big fan as others were. Then En Utero came out, and I felt it was meh.
Then greatness happened: The Unplugged show/album.
Hearing their music stripped of all its distortion opened them up to me. I was blown away at their musicianship and talent. Their song writing was spectacular, and it was drowned out by the overuse of distortion in their previous records. After this I was able to revisit their original three and appreciate them on a different level than before.
I have always loved metal, so distortion in music has never been an issue with me. I think with Nirvana it was a bit overused.
Their covers on this record were spectacular as well. The Man Who Stole The World never gets old to me. Man this was a killer set

Great great record. Absolutely the best thing Nirvana ever did.
AIC Unplugged was the best "Unplugged" record.

That's a punk/indie musical characteristic similar to black metal. Black metal was meant to sound lo-fi and crude when juxtaposed with the technical abilities of other metal genres at the time. The same is said for punk music. Excessive distortion and increased volume are an easy trick for concealing flaws and lacking musicianship. You can easily conceal a missed note when the audience lacks the capacity to distinguish each individual chord or pluck of a string. It also places more of an emphasis on the lyrics and message associated with the song rather than the quality of the instruments.
It's the idea of sounding raw and live, even in the studio. In fact, the initial recordings of In Utero were scrapped entirely because Kurt found Butch Vig's production to be too crisp and clean. It sounded almost too palatable and befitting for mainstream radio. He wanted something that better resembled the classic punk and indie records of the early '80s. You will notice that In Utero has fewer singles than its predecessor Nevermind (3 compared to 5). And so Steve Albini was brought aboard to finish the record.

The thing is that a lot of people get wrapped up in the broad label of "grunge" that was applied to them and most people never quite understand that the aesthetic Nirvana was really going for was punk. In the beginning, they were a punk band. All the other bands in their scene, their friends, were punk bands. They never stopped seeing themselves that way. They, like Rancid, just happened to be really good at writing hooks. Of the other "grunge" bands, the one most befitting that label is probably the amazing Alice in Chains. Pearl Jam is much more of a general (though very good) "rock" band, and Soundgarden is really a classic rock band with dark lyrics and a lot of distortion. They were all sort of in different sub-genres, but due to coming from the same general place at the same time and because they were all using a good amount distortion in the guitar sound, they got put in the "grunge" box together.

The Man Who Sold the World is one of my favorite songs of all time, Nirvana's version being the best.

I was born too late to experience Nirvana at all, but they're one of my favorite bands. I'd put In Utero above any of their albums, personally, and I would imagine all of the band members would as well.
Nirvana, AIC, and Eric Clapton are the top three Unplugged albums, in no particular order.

My Pearl Jam homer-ism would make me want to argue, but nope.
It's a great album. And the balls to play out there covers. From Bowie to Lead Belly? Things that were so obscure that morons like 20 year old me were thinking it was Nirvana b-side shite.
Yes, Nirvana was easily the most punk. They distorted like the "grunge" of the day. But simple 3 piece stuff with a guy screaming over the top is punk.
Any Five Man Acoustical Jam love from anybody going back another decade?
