heard about this. very cool. If I were in Nickelback and had that voice, that's what I'd do.

Hell I'd ramp shite up with my covers. There are a LOT heavier Metallica songs out there and it sounds like his voice is up to it. He being in his 30's instead of 50's like James.

Keep ramping it up to Pantera, and on and on....

The reason I can't stand their music is because they are basically bro country of rock music. It's bland, generic, repetitive and music with zero substance. It's the same crap over and over and over.

Yep. This has always been the most frustrating this about Nickelback. They have the vocal talent to be a great metal band. They have talent on each of the instruments to be able to do something. The pieces are there.

Then they go and write some of the most god awful songs imaginable that use none of the tools that they have at their disposal.

I think it was Hetfield that said one time that Metallica is just 4 decent musicians but when they come together and play them become great. I guess it is the opposite of nickelback.

Maybe three pretty damn good musicians and one mediocre one but I get his point.

I also wonder how much song writing Nickelback actually does. Regardless, the itch for songwriting they just lack. Everything is very formulaic, very scripted, and very boring.

He was full of shite. James, Kirk and Rob are all pretty phenomenal musicians, especially Rob Trujilo. James Hetfields right hand is one of the best of all time, not too mention he is the 80's/90's equivalent of Tony Iommi when it comes to riffs. Lars has always been mediocre, but the rest of Metallica is anything but decent.

And they will still never touch the greatness that is AC/DC.

James is especially underrated as a guitarist too. His and Hammett's guitar sounds and styles compliment each other greatly. Rob is phenominal. Part of the reason they hired him was because he made them better. The other guys who tried out seemed like it was 10% above their capabilities.

Lars catches too much flack for his drumming though. His style is perfect for Metallica. His timing is good and he hits hard. Plus he's a good songwriter and businessman. Complex drumming like Danny Carey of Tool wouldn't fit Metallica. Neither would super fast drumming like Travis Barker's.

You can't have an "itch" for song writing. You must just have a gift for it and/or be a damaged person. Otherwise you get formulaic songwriting. Maybe the nickel back guys are just too un-damaged.

I've never understood the hate either. They aren't amazing, but there are plenty of worse bands that I never hear people talk shite about.
