That's the one you choose?
Yea, I would say Crash but if not for Big Whiskey it probably would have taken me a little longer to really get into them. That album completely opened the door for me to the genre of music I'd been looking for all along.

quote:I like that album as well. Neil Young- Harvest for me. It was kind of my musical awakening. I wasn't really a big music guy growing up because I never found a genre that I loved until I listened to this album. I remember where I was to this day and it opened the door for me. Although I've always hated those 2 terrible orchestra songs.

Van Halen - Van Halen (1978)
Depeche Mode - Construction Time Again (1983)
Pixies - Come On Pilgrim (1987)
From the first second of each album, I was hearing something so far removed from anything I'd ever heard before and just blew me away.

I liked music as a kid, but when I received this album I started to absolutely love music. I listened to the shite out of it.

Probably Pleasant Dreams by The Ramones. Not simply because of the quality. It made me question what I was listening to and search for what else was out there. My switch from Top 40 to College/alt may not have happened.

TOOL- Anemia
TMV- DeLoused in the Comatorium
TMV brought me out of the haze and daze that was the EDM scene from 03-04. Got myself back listening to rock music in general and have not looked back

I was in 5th grade. My family only listened to country music. I had relatives who played country music.
I went home with a kid after school one day and he showed me this album cover. He then played it. Listening to the opening to Detroit Rock City, with the car cranking up, and then the crash at the end = mind blown.
What is most disappointing is having such good memories of this album, and then finding out what a colossal douche Gene is

I got this album when I was like 11. I had already fallen in love with music but this album made me realize there was more than just the stuff you heard on the radio.
Years later I would hear this album and my perspective towards life would change....

This is the one that changed everything for me:

Def Leppard - High N' Dry
Took a big first step to them becoming my favorite band which they have been since Pyromania, which I should include as well.

So awesome to see All Things Must Pass get mentioned in this thread.
If I had to pick one album I'd say The Beatles - Abbey Road. This is the album that got me hooked on The Beatles and made me get away from hair metal/heavy metal. After that I started exploring 60s music like Hendrix, Dylan, Cream and then 70s with Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers.
My music tastes changed drastically after discovering the Beatles, which started with Abbey Road. The tracks that hooked me were Come Together, Something and Here Comes the Sun.

Hearing Daydream Nation at 13 was pretty big for me. Didn't know guitars could make those noises.

My mom is a huge Neil Diamond fan, and when I was little would play this album. I still consider it to be one of the best live albums.

Van Halen
I was starting to head down the disco road because of the popularity of saturday night fever and the disco craze...
this album got me back on track.
