Been on a Dwight kick lately. What's the music boards opinion on Dwight? Favorite song?
I think I would have to go with this one Ain't That Lonely Yet
Or this one Things Change

Thousand Miles from Nowhere and the #1 hit tune him and the boys play when they get the bans back together in Sling Blade. Hell he plays cards with JD Shellnutt, chief of Police.

I love to listen to Dwight! Little Sister and his Streets of Bakersfield. You gotta do the Dwight Yoakam dance too when his songs come one.

The entirety of the dwightyoakumacoustic.net album. Lordy lordy. His songs stripped down to just his voice and an acoustic guitar.... it's something else.

New to listening to him, Thousand Miles is obviously great...I had no idea of his age until I saw him at a music festival last year. Enjoyed his live show.

My favorite Dwight song is "Heartaches By The Number".
My opinion is that he is truly a genius. That word gets used way too often and there are really very few to which it applies - he is undoubtedly one of them.
For the sake of context, when he came of the scene, Country music was ebbing away from Honkie Tonk. His style of music ran contrary to what was popular at the time, and even pre-dated the fabled country outlaws like Willie, Waylon and Merle.
He did not write and sing the way he did to be popular, he was just trying to mimic and create the music that he preferred.

Yep cant wait my first time back to the Orf since Katrina.
May favorite is Thousand Miles From Nowhere. Honky Tonk Man and Guitars and Cadillacs.
But for people like him and TT country is shite.

Even some of his new stuff is great: 'Take Hold of My Hand' and 'Second Hand Heart' are damn good. I can't get enough of the music (Bass and acoustic guitar) on the chorus of SHH. Check them out.

He's my favorite. Going to see him again at the Gold Nugget in Lake Charles in a couple weeks.

I always liked him, but I always thought it was with the understanding that it's kinda dorky to like him. Not sure why, that's just how I always felt.
