Meaning behind band names

Always found this one interesting and creepy given the group's style and music.
quote:
They later changed their name to Spandau Ballet after a friend of the band, journalist and DJ Robert Elms, saw the name 'Spandau Ballet' scrawled on the wall of a nightclub lavatory during a visit to Berlin. This name refers to Spandau Prison and the many hangings there when the victims would twitch and jump at the end of a rope.

Yo La Tengo
And then, their album I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your arse
quote:
The name came from a baseball anecdote. During the 1962 season, New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and Venezuelan shortstop Elio Chacón found themselves colliding in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would scream, "I got it! I got it!" only to run into Chacón, who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, "¡Yo la tengo! ¡Yo la tengo!" instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was instead run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words "¡Yo la tengo!" as a way to avoid outfield collisions.[2] After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, "What the hell is a Yellow Tango?".[3]
And then, their album I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your arse
quote:
The title of the album is rumored to be a (paraphrased) quote by NBA player Tim Thomas. Sitting on the bench together during a game, Thomas was caught on tape by the MSG Network in a profane exchange with fellow Knick, point guard Stephon Marbury. Thomas yelled at Marbury, "Everyone in this organization is afraid of you, but I’m not, and I will beat your arse."

Is pearl jam really another term for jizz? Or is that just something someone made up?

I think made up. I heard a different explanation once, but I don't remember it well enough to tell it.

Led Zeppelin
"This band's going down like a lead blimp" I think Pete Townsend said that when the band was being formed.

Per Wikipedia
quote:
In an early promotional interview, Vedder said that the name "Pearl Jam" was a reference to his great-grandmother Pearl, who was married to a Native American and had a special recipe for peyote-laced jam.

Weren't they originally supposed to be called Mookie Blaylock (hence, naming the first record Ten)??

Eddy Vedder said it was actually named after some mushroom laced jam. Not sure if he was BSing or not.

Creed's splinter band Alterbridge was created as a term for crossing over a bridge in Detroit that went from a ghetto to a very nice neighborhood. Thus meaning change from the dark days of creed, into the new, better band that is Alterbridge. The bridge was also called......Alter Bridge.
Metallica was actually not an original idea to my knowledge. The band was originally going to be called Metal Militia (Name of song in Kill Em All) . I forget who it was in the band, but he had a friend who's band was almost named Metallica but decided against it. Thus, the king of all metal bands was born. This one was mostly off the top of my head so I could be completely wrong.

They stole the name from a magazine, not a band.

Thanks for clearing that up
I knew they stole it from somewhere. I could've sworn a friend was involved tho.
