apparently due to Parkinson's.

Sad, I liked her from the time she was with the Stone Ponies:

"Different Drum"

Solo:

"Long, Long Time"

With the Nelson Riddle Orchestra:

"Someone To Watch Over Me"

This makes me sad, she is one of the best female voices of all time. I was thinking about her recently and wondered why I hadn't heard anything about her lately. I thought she may have permanantly retired.

Saw this earlier. Prayers sent

You picked 3 of my faves of hers

Her standards albums are probably her best work. The '70s hits that made her famous are mostly unremarkable, and her attempts at rockers are awful. I heard her version of "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" first, and hated the song until I heard Warren Zevon's original. And as for her covers of Elvis Costello, let's not even go there...

I suppose. But there were some hidden gems on a couple of the albums.

Her version of Around Midnight is sublime.
A true legend-Henley and Frey were in her band.

Yeah, that Eagles documentary shows you how huge she was. She was hot, had good pipes, and was bossing around some of the best classic rock musicians of the era.

One of the best albums of its time. There is a good cover of Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You".

Here it is

Definitely. And I really like a lot of the collaboration she did (Trio, Aaron Neville, Zevon, etc.). She was awesome when we saw her touring with Aaron Neville.

ETA - and her version of All That You Dream for the Lowell George tribute concert is one for the ages.

I always thought her standards were her best work. My favorite was What's New. Her work with Nelson Riddle introduced me to the Great American Songbook, and I've loved it ever since.

I has the sad.

I saw her live a few times and was always amazed at her voice. Really talented. Back in the early nineties or so when she was hanging around town with Quint, I ran into her at a coffee shop. She was pretty cool. I know. csb

Linda's cover of Dolly Parton's epic ballard
crushes Whitney Houston's version by miles.

Yep. But no one comes close to Dolly. No one.
