I'm really not trying to white knight for Mayer here, but I've never thought of him as that douchey.. Yeah he's said some things in interviews that are of poor taste, but damn imagine if every thing one of us said was under a microscope like that. He honestly seems like a normal dude to me

I can believe that too. I can't put my finger on it but there's just something about his persona that I don't like. I remember an interview where he was talking about how he was struggling to find his own "voice". He said that every lick he played sounded like somebody else. This bit sounded like SRV and that part sounded like Clapton and so on. And I'm saying to myself, "Damn dude, you're way overthinking this. Just play." Because he's really, really good!
