Hopefully this means that he'll cease watering down Grateful Dead songs

I'm not a Dead fan, so I haven't really listened to that much of what they've done together. How exactly has he watered them down?

I am fired up about a new trio record. Mayer is backed by two monster musicians in Jordan and Palladino

You think Weir, Kreutzmann, and Hart would have picked JM to play with them if he "watered down" their songs?

Exactly. Acting as if Mayer had some undue influence on those 3 is sort of absurd.

John is one of the best guitarist around today. Anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about guitar playing, simple as that. I've never met another guitar player or musician who didn't at least give him a nod for his virtuosity on the instrument.

Am I a fan of everything he's ever done? No, but the overwhelming majority of his albums and involvement with other artists is worthy of praise.

That being said, I think this new album with the Jordan and Palladino could be his best. He has grown a lot as an artist and musician since he last played with them. Excited to see his influences over the past few years come together with such a dynamic duo like Pino and Steve.

I agree, 100%. I'm a player myself and have been a huge fan of Mayer since Continuum. My only concern on this next album is his departure from Fender. I just don't know how the Trio is going to sound without that Strat twang.

It could make a difference, but I don't doubt he still uses the Strat along with the PRS. Mayer's tone is in his hands and the way he plays, so I think regardless of his ax, we will still get that JM Trio sound

Strangely enough, that's a Jackson.

Oh shite, you're right. I just saw the shark tooth inlay and the floyd rose set up and assumed.

There wasn't room to negotiate in my statement. Dead & Co is a big ole snoozefest. That's just a fact.

And you've decided that this is Mayer's fault?

Mayer has a lot of haters on here.

I made a thread a few years ago saying how he's arguably the best of his generation. I got a ton of shite for it.

I think he's very underrated, slow dancing in a burning room is a great song

Musically you have to respect the man. His playing skills and what he's able to compose has never been in question with me.

Outside of the music stuff he's still a bag of tools.
