How can you despise blues music? Blues is the basis for rock and roll.

Yes.

" Genius" is thrown around far too much in Pop music.

It is used as a substitute for extreme talent. Duane was an absolute master of the guitar, but he wasn't a revolutionary musician.

Duane Allman is the greatest guitarist of all time, IMO.

He was dead when Melissa was recorded. OP is dumb.

The same way you can despise whatever it is you despise.

No, you are dumb.

Duane Allman was the undisputed leader of the Band when he was alive and everybody knows that. Gregg wrote Melissa years before Eat A Peach; it was Duane's favorite of his brother's work and theband says that's why they recorded it: to honor Duane And the legacy he left behind. The post was about the band and its sound which I attribute starts with Duane's genius

Damn.

So, you ask a question about Duane's genius in the title, then mention melissa when talking about the brilliance of the band? Song written by Gregg, then.."The band felt it lacked a compelling instrumental backing element, and guitarist Dickey Betts created the song’s lead guitar line."

Does anyone have a list of the songs Duane wrote?

You are equally clueless; get your little red thumb out and DV away. I am going to assume some of the more intelligent posters understood exactly what my post meant. Elementary school teachers are told that children only comprehend in a literal sense, that they can't extrapolate. Maybe you are in elementary school.

And this is supported by what? Facts have been pointed out to you multiple times. We realize you're embarrassed. Lashing out does not help your cause.

Oh yeah; I'm really embarrassed being called out by someone who hates the blues posting as if he is an authority on Duane Allman and his band.

if you knew the meaning of the word irony, etc.

Thread's all yours. You can pontificate to all the "we" about Duane Allman.

I know that makes you feel better, but it really shouldn't. Pretty cringe-worthy.

I don't disagree with this at all, the only thing I'm claiming is that Duane was a better player.

Duane was a revolutionary slide player. Maybe the best in that notch between rock and blues. Nobody questions that.

But, as far as technical skills on the guitar, I don't know if Dickey doesn't get the nod, because of all the different things he was ultimately able to do, even learning slide well enough (teaching himself, again, in ONE NIGHT, as I mentioned earlier in the thread) - to backfill Duane on a "better than competent" basis.

"Better" is subjective anyway. Like I say about Duane - he was so good at the slide guitar, he changed the way EVERYONE played the slide guitar afterwards. That's pretty solid, IMHO.

Even Duane's non-slide stuff on 'Liz Reed, Blue Sky, Hot 'Lanta, Mountain Jam, Whipping Post, and some of his studio work (Hey Jude and Loan Me a Dime come to mind) is pretty damn fire.

The most impressive slide work he did, to me, was Dreams - I fiddle around with playing Open E and Open G slide on my guitar and mandolin, but the idea of playing slide on a standard tuning blows my mind. There is absolutely no room for error.
