Going to see them in August - is John Mayer as fast as the legend of Jerry?

Looking forward to seeing Bobby in the flesh.

I say no, but you’ll find plenty of people that dig their slow pace.

No...not close. I saw the Grateful Dead 204 times God bless. I'm going to St. Louis though and it will be fun.

It's live music. It's good. Is it the grateful dead? No. Is it slow? Yes, but I'd rather go see D&C than sit at home.

Yes. Its not THE Grateful Dead and they do play at a slower pace. But they have their magical moments when they play up to expectations. For example:

Yes they are good. No, they are not the Grateful Dead. Yes, they are really goddamn good.

There are two choices: (1) never go see them because they are not the grateful dead, and goddammit if it's not Jerry its not the dead.

or

(2) accept they're not the grateful dead. However, they are still god damn good musicians, three of whom made up the greatest band of all time, and along with three new comers, continue to carry a a torch and play songs in a slightly different way. They lay down a good groove, it's still fun and there is still magic. Is it on par with Jerry coming out of a smack induced daze and melting your face? No. But it's damn close. And we don't have to hear Samba in the Rain. Oteil is awesome and I've actually come to like Mayer too. He is a true head.

Bobby, Billy and Mickey are old. I see them if I get the chance. It is worth it. Some people don't get it or are too headier than thou to appreciate it. That's cool

I never saw the Dead as I was not into them back in the day. That is on me and my "Led Zepplin/Rolling Stone" approach to music in the 70's. Fifty years later I got into the Dead and while I know its not the Jerry based Dead of old I am SUPER PUMPED UP to see them in October

Woodlands here I come!

My little brother who is a deadhead. All’s them the Dead & Slow, but still really enjoys the shows.

Chances are they would play like this if Jerry was still alive. They’re in their late 70s.

Love music is fun. I got Dragged to a Deadstar Orchestra concert with said deadhead brother and it was a good time. I’d go to Dead and Co

Yes. I’m 35 and learned about them a few years ago from Long, Strange Trip. Hooked ever since. I never thought I would have listened to so many shows of one band and yet it all feels fresh. I’ve listened to runs of every period, all of 1983, Spring 77, and yes, Dead & Co in 2018 was as fun as I could have imagined. It’s not Jerry, and a lot of fans who have been going to shows call it Slow & Co, etc. whatever. I understand where they’re coming from, but I also think if you’ve been touring since LBJ was in office, to be doing what they’re doing, to me, is beyond impressive and probably isn’t sustainable. It’s a rocking show and you’ll have a blast. Whatever they play will be awesome. And I haven’t seen a band with the sound quality they had. I hope you check them out. It was the best show I’ve ever been to...until next tour. Can’t wait.

also got tix to the Denver shows but I might wind up selling them as October will be pretty busy

I’m a little older than most of you so I saw the dead a few times in the 80s. Always a fun show just like dead and bro is always a fun show. I never listen to 80/90s dead and I certainly am not popping in a dead and bro show for casual listening. However, at the show it’s the only place I’d want to be.

see Bobby now, there will be a time not too long in the future where you won’t be able to

This. It's boring stuff like Bobby and the Wolf Bros mixed in with some Mayer kitsch. Pure nostalgia act for people to check off having seen original members play.

Your best choice for trying to capture live Grateful Dead sound. Extended jams, improvisation and great chemistry.

Hell, the Grateful Mahalo shows with Billy and the Kids with guests was top notch also. Strings is a better player and singer than Mayer.

If you like hearing 6 songs in 3 hours that all run together and sound the same, then sure
