I think this is very true. Less Isbell in DBT means more Cooley songs, which is awesome. And Isbell has been very successful as a solo artist. Both parties benefited by him leaving.

Isbell's sound has evolved quite a bit since he left, I think for the better. He's only gotten stronger and stronger since leaving and sobering up.
The band had been Patterson and Cooley even before it was DBT. Other members have come and gone but those guys have remained the songwriting core of the band and have taken it to fantastic new places, especially with the latest album.

That's not to say I don't love the songs from when Isbell was with them, I listen to the 40 watt dvd show all the time.

I don't disagree...I still listen to DBT and Isbell all the time...both are doing some great stuff...

I picked up this CD last week at the Hattiesburg show and I've been listening to it since. It's really good.
