Now the Truckers are celebrating those thousands of nights spent with the amps up by issuing a massive live album — 35 tracks! — recorded during a three-night stand at the Fillmore in San Francisco. The set boasts favorites from every point in the Truckers' career, starting with Cooley and Hood's early band, Adam's Housecat, and going all the way into material from its excellent 2014 album English Oceans, including an epic version of "Grand Canyon," the band's gorgeous ode to the late Craig Lieske, who was the band's tour merchandise man for a decade, and who died in 2013. It's Great To Be Alive! will be out October 30, and though it's not quite as perfect a Truckers experience as seeing the band live a dozen times over the years, it's pretty close.

where is all the Isbell stuff?

they are leaving a significant time period out...

He isn't in the band anymore. Why would they play and sing the songs that he wrote and sang? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd like to hear Cooley and Hood sing some of those songs, but it isn't surprising that no Isbell songs are on there.

Isbell isn't in the band, and hasn't been for a decade. Honestly, he only appears on two and a half records. He does have three of their best songs (Outfit, Decoration Day, and Goddamn Lonely Love), but his stuff is hardly essential to the Truckers songbook at this point.
I mean, I like Isbell, but he was in the band for such a short period of time. It's like bitching that Neil Young is not on a CSN track. Look, I love Neil Young, too, but both sides moved on a long time ago.

I took it as a "best of" album by the description...just saying you can't do a best of without Isbell...that was my only point...I do realize he isn't in the band anymore...I follow along...and doesn't do shows with them obviously...it was more a..."don't say its the best of DBT if you don't include Isbell" thought process....
I love DBT...love Patterson Hood's songwriting...but
Isbell solo > DBT without him
IMHO
It is clear to me that when he left "amicably" he was actually pushed out...he is a better vocalist, guitar player, and song writer...and they knew it...
once again..IMHO

I saw the truckers set at hogs for the cause and enjoyed it much more than the last time I saw them. I'm thinking of going to the varsity show. my friend plays bass for them.

To each his own. I enjoy English Oceans more than any Isbell solo album.
I like Isbell, but I like Hood and Cooley more.

Nice. I love the Dexateens and I think that he is a great fit for DBT. Adds a lot of energy.

i took it as a live album recorded on their last tour with a setlist that spans their entire career... which is exactly what it is.

he was also a big drunk jerk at the time, and getting divorced from a spouse in the band too... so theres that, beyond being scared he was too good.

I don't think many will agree that are fans of americana/southern rock will share that opinion.
Last two records now that isbell has put out have been stellar.

I think both Isbell and DBT are better off where they are right now.

That's fine. I don't even think that Isbell's last two albums are really comparable to English Oceans. Really a different sound and style.

No doubt, but I still like English Oceans better than both.
