I'm looking for something different than the same old songs.

Can't help you with the "different" aspect.
I'm of the opinion that a Van Morrison cover band who can bust out a few Warren Zevon songs is pretty much the perfect reception band.

Basically, there are 3 main kinds of "wedding music":
Country/swamp pop: anything Van Morrison, The Freeze, Strokin, Matilda, Dalla, Ya Ya, Sweet Soul Music, Green Grass, Boogie Shoes, ect
80's cover band: Jessie's Girl, Summer of 69, footloose, Don't Stop Believing, ect
DJ Line Dance: No parking on the Dance Floor, Strokin', Cupid Shuffle, Bunny Hop, Cha cha slide, YMCA, electric slide, ect
The next teir of less common wedding bands include reggae, 70's funk (Tower of Power, Earth, Wind, & Fire, P-Funk, ect), Jazz/Swing (for classy people only), & modern variety (Black Eye Peas, Bruno Mars, basically any pop song from the last 20 years)
If you really want to blow peoples minds, find a washed up has-been band from the 80's or 90's that had a couple recognizable songs and book them.
If you're just looking for tracks:
catch the bride off-guard with New Found Glory's "My Friends Over You" and just watch the chaos unfold
"Tupelo Honey"
"Take On Me" cover by Reel Big Fish

What type of music are you into. I DJ about 30 weddings per year and I love playing the non traditional weddings.

Tell him that a classic Stevie B dance song would be a good one!
