Pop punk like blink 182, avril, sum 41...etc was some of the worst music I remember hearing.

With that said, as far as punk..the Danzig led misfits were one of my favorite bands & Black flag.

It’s my opinion that the best music is rooted in punk rock (it’s a key influence). That said, I don’t like any of those bands.

I grew up on 80s hardcore. I also like pop music, so I don't reflexively hate pop punk, especially the Lookout! Records roster or even some of the emo stuff on Vagrant.

But pretty much all my favorite bands are either old punk bands or heavily influenced by the punk scene. Our band could be your life.

It's not my favorite genre, but it's still up there. Yellowcard was an absolute blast at the Varsity a couple months back. I still listen to Sum 41, Blink 182, Unwritten Law, ect when I want to get that nostalgia going. I think 5 years from now, that music is going to be "retro" and "cool" again, just like 80's pop was the retro cool thing 5 years ago. This stuff goes in cycles.

My problem, as someone who writes a lot of music, is that a lot of what I write ends up inevitably sounding like pop punk because that's what I grew up listening to. It makes it a lot harder when one has to deliberately write with the intention of getting a song in a particular genre rather than just playing and embracing what comes out naturally. I'm hoping pop/punk sorta comes back so I can use that backlog of music. Right now, I'm doing more 70's style bluesy hard rock.

Taking Back Sunday definitely is. That album "Louder Now" was so damn good.

Some great pop punk tracks:
Walking Disaster - Sum 41
Breathing - Yellowcard
Make Damn Sure - Taking Back Someday
Last Train Home - Lost Prophets
Solid Blue - Luke Starkiller

Luke Starkiller is having a reunion show at Southport Hall on Friday Night in Metairie. I'll be there

Agreed TFTC. When I think pop-punk, I think Mr T Experience, Ramones, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, and the like.

I consider the Ramones and those 80's artists to be "punk" while those late 90's-early 2000's bands like Greenday and Good Charlotte are "Pop/Punk" Then, the next wave like Rise Against and Senses Fail fall into "Post Punk Hardcore"

Enema Of The State is one of the more solid albums ever. I have never been a true album fan,but I could listen to that one all the way through with no issues. The next one was pretty good as well.

Not my favorite genre, but Dookie is one of my 10 favorite albums from the 90's. Brings back great memories from my early high school days.

Nevermind is more of a punk album than a "grunge" album IMO. Drain You is one of the best punk rock songs ever.
