Just saw where he is playing tonite in Asheville, where I am. I'm a fan of old Steve Earle and like a few of his newer songs. But I don't want to waste my time and money if he's just going to blab about politics the whole time. Which I've heard he is prone to do. Anybody seen him lately?

I saw him last February. Thought he sucked. Shitty playlist. Talked about politics a lot and he sounded like an idiot. Sometimes he'll bring his wife on stage and she sucks. So yeah- there ya go.

Awesome. Saw him like two weeks ago at Lockn and he was great. Had never listened to or heard him before and loved it.

- now that you mention it he did make a one or two jokes / comments but didn't go on any long rants. One song was kind of funny about the flag and mississippi, although I didn't gather what point he was trying to make.

I mean he didn't make a whole lot of political comments and I enjoyed his music. But it was a big festival so maybe he wasn't close enough to the crowd to get some good discussion going.

Whose arse are u gonna whip? steve looks kind of big

Steve's 20 year meth binge had to have took most of the lead out of his pencil. I think I can take him if he starts spewing his commie propaganda.

Heroin era Steve Earle was awesome. Saw him a few years ago and I was bored to tears.

its not a rager by any means. Thoroughly enjoyed his daytime festival set though.

I think I just got him on a night when he was in a bad mood. He acted like he didn't want to be there.

Friend went and saw him a week or two ago here, and said it was great.

This probably sums it up best. I wish I saw heroin era Steve.

Have you seen The Wire? If so, just imagine the character he played performing on stage. It's the same thing and it's weird.

Good show. He played a good mix of old and new. Had the Mastersons open then play with him. The dude Masterson is kinda weasely and annoying but the chic is awesome. Plays anything and can sing like a mofo. Steve wasnt too bad on his communist soap box. Glad I went.

I saw him at a festival in the 90s. He was amazing, and I hated country at the time.

He's, literally, said at one point, "I fall somewhere to the left of Chairman Mao on the political spectrum" in the past.

That being said, at least he's a genuinely populist, pro-working class Woody Guthrie brand commie... not a neo-liberal jackass.

Yes he played it and I've heard it a few times before on XM. The point he is trying to make is that he is sorry he's white and he, a brain fried drug addled old fat musician from Virginia, should be given the authority to tell the people of Mississippi what to do with their flag. Me? I don't give a rats arse about Mississippi's flag one way or the other. Cause bitch I'm from Louisiana. I don't know why Steve gives such a shite. He really makes himself angry trying to make people think like he does. And he is divorcing Allison Moore and hates her too. He can play and sing but happy he ain't.

Steve is just an a-hole. There is no better word to describe him. After listening to interviews from his son Justin, I can't help but feel like I just want to tell him what a shitty dad he was while he's pontificating about how other people should live their lives. "Hey Steve, why don't you shut the frick up and go give your son a hug you self righteous prick!"

But I do dig some of his music so there's that......
