Just saw the announcement from the Varsity that he'll be here in a few weeks. I know he comes around often but I've never had the chance to make a show.

Saw him at the Varsity a few years ago and had a really good time. I'd say go for it, he doesn't get as drunk as Pat Green.

He was good back in 1996. Haven't seen him since he went to crap.

He's great live. His recorded vocals aren't that good. So live if he suffers vocally they just turn it up.

Small setting should be very cool.

He sucks lately. I quit trying after about 6 years ago. Now back in the late 90s it was real good.

Always enjoy a good REK concert.... the last time he was here it wasn't that great though. Definitely, didn't want to be here or at least singing that night. He phoned it in. That being said... if he looks high when he starts it'll probably be a good one.

Thing that sucks about the varsity and REK is that the show is dominated by college aged kids. Which is fine.... just can get a little tight in there and when the show is during the week getting hammered to be able to deal with it isn't an option cause of work in the morning.

If you've never seen him live go check him out. Probably 80-85% chance you'll get a good show.

He doesn't really drink much, so he shouldn't be drunk. His band is fantastic, so even if his vocals are off (his vocals aren't great to begin with), the band should be great.

I assume REK smokes pot. I've seen him in what appears to be a quite blazed state, and on his ACL live album he seems absolutely stoned out of his mind. I don't know that for certain, fwiw.

But I've never really seen a bad REK show. A lot of the Texas artists get political but we've had a hiatus post-GWB.

REK concert is more like an adult version of a fraternity band party.

I've seen him 3 or 4 times at the varsity and never had a bad time. I'm not sure what everyone is talking about him going downhill or being political. I saw him a couple of weeks ago in Dallas, and he was great.

Yeah I've been going regularly since 2003 or so, probably 15-20 times in that span, and haven't noticed any downward trend in his performances.

Now his albums have slid during that period and as a result you get more mediocre stuff mixed into the shows.

I enjoy REK, but the last show I saw was his Christmas show in 2015.... never again will I attend one of his Christmas shows. Pretty sure it was a 1 off. Last time he played the varsity was a great show.

That was an awesome show.... also, the first and last time my wife has gone to a REK concert.
Couple days ago she says "hey Robert earl is going to varsity" I said cool... she followed up with "you know I'm not going right?"

His last one at the varsity he just didn't seem into it. I really enjoy jamming to his old stuff and he will generally throw a couple in the show.

No kinda dancer and gringo honeymoon are also good albums. I'll drink a beer to "lonely feeling", "no kinda dancer" and "I'm coming home".

Yea, I saw his Christmas show at the HOB in Dallas this year. It was strange, but it wasn't too bad. He opened with Feeling Good Again, and followed it up with Gringo Honeymoon - That enough is worth the show.

Peppered throughout the show, the band members would imitate other country singers; i.e. hank williams, hank williams jr, etc.... it was bizarre and I didn't really care for it. I probably wouldn't go to the Christmas show again either.

Robert Earl Keen is always great to see. I've seen him dozens of times over the last 25 years and I still really enjoy seeing him. No two shows are the same.

Haven't seen him since before he wore the suits on stage. I agree with the earlier post that his last few albums haven't measured up to those from the mid-90's through early 2000's (Picnic, Gringo Honeymoon, Bigger Piece of Sky)

Saw him many times from around 2000 to '08 or '09...always a great show but I feel you're getting more new stuff on the setlists than the older stuff I prefer.
