Have you tested the "dark side of the moon/wizard of oz" theory?

Have you tested it out to see if it really syncs up?

Yes, it kind of does. It is an interesting experience. I don't think it was intentional.

Kiiiinda. Same way mouthing watermelon while someone is talking. Every now and then it'll sync up and seems like its waaaay more often than it is. But pretty cool parts do line up.

The first one and half times it plays through its pretty spot on IIRC. After that it falls off. Been probably 10 years since I've done it though.

yeah. it was really hard to get it timed up when it was a VCR/tape player. But we got it to work.

they have versions you can stream off the internet that does it too.

They also have other ones. none are as good tho

You can watch it here: LINK

If you wanna get really into it, check out "The Definitive List". I remember looking at that site back when I was in high school (2005?), and this Youtube video shows some of what it compiled.

I have watched it many, many times. Even if it was unintentional, the atmosphere of that album combined with the imagery of the movie makes for a damn trippy experience. And there are parts that make you think there's no way it could have been unintentional... alarm clocks suddenly going off the moment Miss Gulch appears on screen for the first time, the start of "Great Gig in the Sky" when the storm begins, the abrupt end of that song and several seconds of dead silence as Dorothy explores the farmhouse post-tornado-ride, followed by the immediate beginning of "Money" as she opens the door and the film turns to color, the way the Munchkins dance in perfect time to the music if you time it all just right... it's a cool experience even without drugs.

I've done it probably 20+ times. It absolutely does sync up in some incredible ways, and I would undoubtedly recommend doing it if you haven't.

With that said, you can sync up anything to anything and see some similarities so no, they didn't not do it on purpose like some loonies seem to think.

We did it one night after a long day at JazzFest. It was pretty wild how some parts of the music seemed to be directly related to the movie. We were fricked up, but very entertained.

Sadly, when the music ended, there was still about half of the movie left to play. It made me think that perhaps Pink Floyd had not actually written the music to coincide with the movie. It would have had to been a double album...

However, if you own Dark Side of the Moon and Wizard of Oz, I'd recommend giving it a whirl. If I remember correctly, you should start the music when the MGM lion roars for the third time.

If you let the music play through (CD on repeat, for example) a second time (and third, maybe?) - when Dorothy wakes up back in Kansas at the end coincides with the lyric, "Home, home again" - so that's pretty cool.

I watched the video on youtube. It's eerie, to say the least.

Now I just want to lay in my bed with headphones, and just listen to DSOTM. I feel like albums aren't made like that anymore. Maybe they are, and I'm just not aware of them.

Dark Side of the Moon is not so much an album as it is a journey.

I have never done this. I have DSOTM on vinyl and a week off coming up.

I absolutely recommend it, although it's easier and better to just look it up on Youtube and watch it there. Doing it yourself it's easy to not get the timing just right, and if it's not just right, there's things you might miss (like the aforementioned dancing Munchkins in time with the beat).

they're not.

now it's all about trying to score one hit that'll be downloaded on iTunes.
gone are the days where you the entire album was one solid piece of work.
