Didn't Robbie Robertson write damn near all the songs?

He's credited with them (and gets all of the royalties) but he heavily drew from Levon's experience growing up on a farm in Arkansas.

And Levon had a huuuge problem with this.

I am a big RUSH fan, and can agree with the latter two, but not the first.

Find any respectable list of 50 best guitarists, best bassists, or best drummers of all time, and one of the members of Rush is on the list.

Alex Lifeson is a great guitarist but he's not top 50 all time.

The Band were better song writers than Rush. Period.

Rush has very little soul compared to the Band.

Sure he is. Watch this...

Cdawg's top 50 guitarists all-time:

1. blah
2. you know
3. so-n-so
.
.
.
.
.
46. Alex Lifeson

See how easy that is?

The Band were better song writers than Rush. Question mark?

I don't think I can argue this one.

But Rush is the right answer.

Okay, name any member of the band that belongs on any of those 3 lists.

I guess so. The Band has very little talent compared to Rush, though.

I never said that Rush wasn't talented or that the Band had better musicianship.

Rush obviously has way more technical ability. The Band are better song writers regardless of that.

Slash has more technical ability than John Lennon but he pales in comparison to Lennon's song writing ability. Get what I'm saying?

I like Rush as well. Saw them play on their snakes and arrows tour.

Would you rank Rush > Yes?

Absolutely. Jon Anderson is a better singer than Geddy for sure, but I just think Rush was more consistent over the years.

According to Levon, just about all the songs were a collaboration between all the band members. The proof is in the pudding if you look at Robertson's stuff after the Band which is pretty irrelevant.

The Band wins even if you consider The Band as only

Robbie Robertson

How so?

Drummer? Rush

Guitarist? Band

Bassist? Push

Vocals? Band

Songs? Band

Piano? Band

Organ? Band

Fiddle? Band

Mandolin? Band

Sax? Band

Sweaty man-fans? Rush

The Band wins.

Lol, no. If Levon hadn't been in The Band, I would have no fricking idea who they were.

If you consider "singing drummer" a category - Levon is certainly Top 5.
