Pearl Jam by a wide margin.
Most grunge bands of the early 90s, alternative rock in the late 80s, old school and blossoming rap, punk.
Examples: PJ, AIC, STP, Pixies, Nirvana - REM, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths - NWA, Public Enemy, Tupac - Green Day, Sex Pistols (older for me).
Grunge hit me in a powerful way. It's hard to fathom any band topping PJ for my #1 OA all-time, but maybe...

This question is flawed. Isn't Gen X from around 61 to 81? I was born in 81 and my music taste is much different than someone born in the mids 60's. It would almost be better to ask this question for decades. Also the way the question reads is what is your favorite band from the era which would cancel out all of the grunge that everyone has listed. So to answer your question I would say Led Zepplin or Black Sabbath because I was born in 81 and Zepplin and Black Sabbath are my favorite bands from 61 to 81.
I'll pretend you asked what my most influential music was growing up being born in Gen X( technically I'm a millennial) but close enough.
90's were big for me
Alice in Chains
Silver Chair
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Sound Garden
Pantera
Metallica
Acid Bath
David Allen Coe
Deftones
Hank Williams Jr
Kid Rock( not a fan now)
As I got older I stared to appreciate
The Cars
DIO
Iron Maiden
The 80's really sucked for music!
My favorites on my playlist now are
Deftones
Mastodon
All them Witches
sturgill
Jamey Johnson
Down
COC
Dax Riggs
Baroness
The Sword
Weedpecker
Zepplin
Sabbath
Alice in Chains
The Toadies

The question is not flawed. I didn't define "generation X"

Iron Maiden.
Black Sabbath night have invented metal but Maiden perfected it and unlike Metallica they are still good.

Van Halen, Rush, Police, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AIC, STP would all head up my list. It goes down in tiers from there.
