Has anyone seen this group in the last 12 months?
They're playing here in Atlanta Sa night. Not a big effort for me to go see them; should I?
My son asked me, " are they a cover band of the Meters?"
I replied some original members, but not many. Is that an accurate statement?
TIA

I've seen them many times but none in the last year. They are fantastic and to be honest, I prefer them over the original Meters.
I think Art Neville and George Porter, Jr. are the only original members of the Meters that play in the funky Meters.

It would be worth it just to see these two.

Yeah no question. But Russell Batiste, Jr. is a tremendous drummer too and Brian Stoltz is no slouch.

Correct. George Porter Jr still brings it and continues to defy his age. Art's voice is pretty horrible these days, but his keyboard skills aren't bad.
I've seen GPJ in a lot of different settings. The Meters, the funky Meters, the Meter Men + Page McConnell, Porter-Batiste-Stoltz, George Porter Jr Trio, George Porter and Running Pardners, 7 Walkers, G.A.B.E. (George Porter Jr, Anders Osborne, Billy Iuso, Eric Bolivar), The Johnny Vidacovich, June Yamagishi, and George Porter Trio (also ft. Ivan Neville), B.I.I.G. (Russell Batiste, Ivan Neville,Ian Neville,George Porter Jr) , and several Super Jams. Not sure what my favorite one is.

I've seen a lot of those too. My favorite might have been when he was playing with Govt Mule.

^^^^^
I'd much rather hear Stoltz than Leo these days.
