that ill buy. ive noticed that i dont dig their actual music and their quality of writing doesnt catch me like it once did.... but the political thoughts themselves dont bug me much.

Patterson Hood is the worst musician in the history of music. I'd rather listen to Nickleback, Michael Bolton, Celine Deion and Fran Drescher screaming on constant repeat for the rest of my life than listen to one octave of Patterson Hood's shitty, whining bitch arse voice. frick him and the garbage arse Drive By Truckers.

Counterpoint: ain't never gonna change.

I do think its funny people are just noticing DBT is an extremely political band. They always have been. I haven't heard the new record yet, so I have no opinion on it other than I heard Cooley writes more songs on it, which is always a good thing. Cooley is a terrific songwriter, though not as prolific.

I knew it from interviews, but the music wasn't so in your face. Take Ghost To Most. I think I know what Cooley was trying to do, but the actual words don't really bite hard

Then you haven't been paying attention. Almost every song on Southern Rock Opera has a political tinge to it, though more historical than current politics.

I don't listen to Hood, at all. I don't really care for Cooley's songs on that one. How does having a political tinge to it counter my statement that is wasn't so in your face?

Neither one of these dudes can actually sing. They may have one decent song between both of them. That band went into the shitter when Isbell left.

were you actually in at some point? it seems that would be a prerequisite to coming to all the DBT threads this year and posting that you were now out.

I realize you were born that way, and it's not your fault you're so wrong politically

Zyweic (beer) and rock n roll...

to be honest, I can't get past Patterson Hoods thick as syrup voice (when speaking), though his songs are just meh..

DBTs have out lived their relevance to me... though, by all means, I hope they keep on doing what they do..

Same here.

But like I've said here before:

I'm very aware that half the artists I listen to would hate my guts on a personal level. No one hates their fellow American like a Progressive does, that's for sure.

Oh well. I'll just swipe this one for free from someone later, give it a listen and go from there.

I've seen them twice live and they were great. They didn't talk about politics either time. Just played music and told random stories. That I can deal with.

This is correct.

When Isbell was with them it was Isbell, Cooley then Hood.

If Cooley wrote every song I'd be thrilled.
