Phil is a count, loves to sucker punch people then tell them he is so sorry, I've seen that twice.

And he is a coward, if you are a heroin guy don't be a bitch.

How long has this been going on? I love Pantera but haven't kept up with any "news" on them at all in many years. I always viewed them - and Anselmo by extension - as liberal, anti-racist type guys. Although now when I go back and look at the No Good (Attack the Radical) lyrics, maybe they weren't saying what I thought they were.

I saw them in Jax on the Far Beyond Driven tour and he absolutely made some remarks I considered strange. For some reason he got off on a tangent about Pantera being "a WHITE band", emphasizing the word white. I don't recall anything about white power or anything necessarily anti-black or anti-jewish or whatever, but it was definitely delivered in a racial manner. I was just kind of confused about why he was stressing that they were a WHITE band.

And this was 21 years ago.

He's not even that great IMO he just hit some cool notes in Cemetary Gates that he can't replicate live half of the time.

True, his voice is fried now. But there was a time during the '90s where he was probably the most multi-talented vocalist outside of Dickinson, Halford, & Dio. He could sing falsetto and hit high notes in the same ballpark as Dickinson & Halford while also bringing forth some intensity and brutality almost on par with death metal vocalists.

Not too many metal singers have undergone such a rapid change in vocal style as Anselmo's from Cowboys From Hell to The Great Southern Trendkill.

Phil is my favorite musician and I will not waiver from that. Yes, what he said was dumb, but it is obvious from the video that he was plastered. No excuse, but I for one have definitely been there before. I think we've all done shite that we regret while wasted. Only difference is this was caught on camera and involved a (in)famous musician.

I don't agree with all of the piling on that Phil is getting and honestly feel bad for the dude.

I feel worse for the members of Down that depend more on these shows for monetary reasons than Phil does. Landgraf, Bower, Pat. Pepper and Phil will be fine with or without Down. Phil will be fine if he never plays another live gig again.

I wonder if Pat regrets leaving Crowbar now?

I don't understand your comparison. Please elucidate.

Lauryn Hill is a racist piece of shite, too. Once went on the record saying she doesn't want white people buying her albums.

What the frick has Hetfield ever done?

His voice was decent and recognizable. He's also a very talented guitarist. Phil is not on James' level.

I'm not a big Metallica fan, for the record.

Comparing Lauryn Hill to a nazi salute is preposterous.

And this is even before you take into account that it's an urban legend that she said she didn't want white people buying her albums. Congrats on the misplaced butthurt.

Chuck D kind of rules pretty hard.. and this is coming for someone that has pretty much hated most rap music since like 2000.

Here's Chuck D debating known douche bag Lars Ulrich about file sharing.

So a drunk rockstar exheroin user has offended the PC masses at a heavymetal concert...... If anyone was offended at the dimebash, they just weren't effed up enough....
Give the poor guy a break, we all say/do stupid stuff when we are shitfaced.

I like Chuck D, but at that moment in time, Lars was in the right.

I don't really care. All I'm saying is it's a no-brainer to cancel a show for a band giving nazi salutes. I think it's highly likely that Phil's brain has been permanently damaged over the years.

I always thought this, Like Tommy Hilfiger saying he didn't want black people to big his clothes, was an urban legend.

Hard rock/metal is rebellious by nature. The general public should be pissed off and offended by it. That's the point. The Civic has hosted several bands with an anti-Christian/pro Satan message. You would think they would be more sensitive to not offending them in a largely Christian city. Not to get too political but its hypocritical of them.

Meh. It's not hypocritical if they are reading the tea leaves and estimating where their bread is buttered.

Also, strikes me as unlikely that "anti-christian" bands advocate doing to Christians what the Nazis did.

I've never heard Phil advocate genocide. Slayer had giant upsidedown crosses hanging from the ceiling and King Diamond had a giant, light up pentagram for a background. Not to mention Slayer's numerous anti Christian songs and Ghost's pro Satan songs. Why is that allowed if they are so worried about offending people?
