My 11 year old kids were singing Queen and David Bowie last week. You're doing it wrong.

It's up to these little millennials parents to teach them about good music.

The problem with kids today is they don't educate themselves on good music that occurred before their time. I came of age at a great time in the early 90's listening to great bands like Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Megadeth, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Guns N Roses. But I also educated myself on awesome bands from before my time like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Doors, and Pink Floyd. People don't make the effort any more. Good new rock music isn't dead but you have to dig deep for it.

Rock radio has pretty much died and those that still like it are listening to Sirus XM Octane/Faction/Liquid Metal. All of the rock exclusive fests have partnered with them and don't really lean on the few terrestrial stations that are left. There are some huge festivals still alive like Rock on the Range that fills up the soccer stadium in Columbus every May - last year they had about 70k and the headliners were Slipknot/Judas Preist/Linkin Park. I thought about going this year but am going to wait to see what some of the smaller fests like Rocklahoma, Louder than Life, Carolina Mayhem, etc are lining up.

I can understand why you'd post this somewhere besides the Music Board.

Listening to pop stations makes me want to kill myself. Don't listen to them.

Some of us have been there bro with regards to thinking rock is dead.

If you try a little harder you will find the music you seek.

It's a sad world

That era ended at the turn of the century basically. Rock came of age during a major cultural transition in this country. It won't ever be duplicated the way it existed in the salad days of the 60'-90's. It was a late Twentieth Century phenomenon.

All of those American rock festivals drew huge numbers last year. The American rock festival scene is not on par with Europe and I doubt it will ever get there, but its growing. Mayhem Fest is gone but there are new smaller festivals popping up every year.

I say it repeatedly, but the truth is that the widespread popularity of classic rock radio is the main reason rock music is so passé now. Somebody said "It's old people music" and that is correct, but why? It's because the classic rock format has always refused to integrate new music into the playlist.

The CR stations are usually the only consistent rock outlet for most radio markets and EVERY damn thing they play was already threadbare back in the early 80s. Even satellite radio is guilty of this to a lesser degree.

Back when rock music was healthy it was because the free outlet (radio) made sure to rotate the repertoire and keep it from getting stale. Now it's like seeing the same old rotting corpse all day every day over and over again. How many times do we really need to hear "Dream On"? I got it already. I know that fricking song in my sleep. Can't we just leave it alone at this point?

Rock music will continue to decline until the CRR format goes away or at least stops being popular enough to dominate the radio market.

I think music is gonna eventually be so shitty in the future, people are gonna revert back to rock... Hopefully

I think we are nearing the tipping point. Like Seattle taking out the Hair Metal 80's or disco getting killed. What knocks it out? I don't know.

Also, Bro Country HAS to be nearing its tipping point. But ONLY if women stop listening. Women listen then hard-legs must follow. But sweet Jesus Florida Georgia Line is atrocious. It's cliche' to say now they are so bad.
