Here's a double play...

Elvis Costello covers a Nick Lowe song:
Original
Cover

Then Nick's band Rockpile (led by Dave Edmunds) returns the favor:
Original
Cover

I really like both versions, but I always thought the Chili Peppers' version of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" was awesome. Great guitar, bass and drums in that one.

...Seasons in the Sun

The Kingston Trio did a version of this song in 1964. LINK

Furthermore, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes did a cover of this song that I like better than the original. The band is a punk rock supergroup and cover band which included Chris Shiflett, lead guitarist for the Foo Fighters.

To each his own, I guess.

Growing up listening to Top 40 AM radio, back in the day when it was a hit, it got painfully old really fast. Only thing about it I didn't hate was the cool reverbed guitar part at the beginning of the verses.

I've never been one who tolerate the numerous 70's era sappy tear-jerker type songs like this. Other examples include "Blind Man in the Bleachers" by Kenny Starr, "Run Joey Run" by David Geddes, and "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro. YMMV.
