Phish and MMJ both do great covers of "Oh! Sweet Nuthin"; though not as good as the original.

MMJ's "Tyrone" is debatable.

Phish's "Cross Eyed and Painless" is awesome but it's hard to top the Talking Heads'.

Yeah, Phish does a pretty good job of C&P.

My favorite track off of Remain in Light is "The Great Curve" (makes me want to get tribal in the African motherland). Phish's version on 10.31.96 was okay but didn't come near the truly intoxicating polyrhythmic groove of the original.

anything that phish did is better than the original. if phish played "what a wonderful world" i guarantee you it would be better than that louis armstrong crap.

phish is the best band ever and any song they play is better than anyone elses.

It suffers from the problems of most of early NIN, that's it's just warmed over Ministry made more palatable

I'd say more Nitzer Ebb only because of reznor's work with Flood. But your point of NIN is correct none the less.

Hurt does get all the glory of songs he covers b/c of the impact of which you posted. The same when he covers Personal Jesus. It has a deeper meaning behind a man who displayed such a pietistic life while coping with struggles of life, family, drugs, etc.

Actually my favorite is his cover of Rusty cage. He rocks it rawer that Soundgarden ever could.

besdies taking a he took a Soundgarden song and rocked it rawer than they ever could. <------WTF happened here in my post?

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Not better than the NIN version.

It's good but Cash could barely talk much less sing when he recorded that.

A great point. And I actually like Soundgarden. But his Rusty Cage is unbelievable. Cash gives power to words that previously lacked it.

Fear Factory - Cars

Keep in mind I love both versions, but have always favored the cover, and Gary Numan sings in it which makes it extra awesome.

For some reason I like the Marilyn Manson version of "Tainted Love" better than Soft Cell's or the original

Never said BC is better than OR. I just really like the way they did it. Like both.
