if we're still talking about Respect, it is an Otis Redding tune. I read an interview somewhere where he said that he may have written it, but Franklin took it and made it her own. Or something similar.

Willie wrote it, but had he recorded it (more than a demo) before Patsy did? I thought at that time Willie was doing more songwriting than recording.
