I truly think this band died with Terry Kath. I've been listen to some of their early stuff and it was fantastic.

Yeah the early stuff is definitely better, before Cetera started writing some terribly pussified songs.

I'm a fan of old, middle, later Chicago. Yep, I know the later stuff was sappy fluff by Cetera.

Dialogue always reminds me of how rough the 60's/70's were compared to now.

Dialogue Part 1

Are you optimistic 'bout the way things are going?
No, I never ever think of it at all

Don't you ever worry
When you see what's going down?

No, I try to mind my business, that is, no business at all

When it's time to function as a feeling human being
Will your Bachelor of Arts help you get by?

I hope to study further, a few more years or so
I also hope to keep a steady high

Will you try to change things
Use the power that you have, the power of a million new ideas?

What is this power you speak of and this need for things to change?
I always thought that everything was fine

Don't you feel repression just closing in around?
No, the campus here is very, very free

Don't it make you angry the way war is dragging on?
Well, I hope the President knows what he's into, I don't know

Don't you ever see the starvation in the city where you live
All the needless hunger all the needless pain?

I haven't been there lately, the country is so fine
But my neighbors don't seem hungry 'cause they haven't got the time

Thank you for the talk, you know you really eased my mind
I was troubled by the shapes of things to come

Well, if you had my outlook your feelings would be numb
You'd always think that everything was fine

God that's a good fricking song.

I love Chicago, I enjoy almost all of it. Even the sappy cheesy pop. I don't care, fight me.

They had some nice ballads I suppose. They were a hell of a rock band when Kath was fire. I think Cetera was an underrated bassist. Can't wait to see the Kath documentary his daughter has put together.

Check out these songs:

25 or 6 to 4 - Live at Tanglewood Kath shines on this especially starting at the 3:00 mark

I'm familiar with just about their entire catalogue. When you're a trumpet player, you kind of have to be.

Are 4 originals from the band in 1969 still playing?

I like several of their songs, but love the simplicity of "Colour My World."

Here is an extremely old video of the song with Kath on lead vocal:

The four original remaining performers of Chicago are Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walter Parazaider.

According to Wikipedia.

Damn Kath for fricking up a great thing.....

I believe it was Lee Loughnane who said the spirit of the band died with Terry Kath. And of course there's the famous Jimi Hendrix quote to the band after he saw them, "Your horn section is like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me".

Those first three albums are amazing.

As someone who is not familiar at all with Chicago but would like to check em out, where would be a good starting point? Be it a few of their better songs or albums or whatever.
