Nevermind. The John B Sails is just a stripped version. I don't know why wiki put brian there. Definitely didn't write that haha.

He was just around much longer. Wilson lost his mind and never found it.

Not completely true, but kind of. I really enjoyed Wilson's last solo album that came out earlier this year called No Pier Pressure. Really enjoyable to listen to.

Every video I've seen of him looks bad. Disturbed. Uncomfortable. Tortured.

Has he ever been comfortable? Early beach boys live? Was he able to look comfortable? Ever able to embrace fame? Or was it just drugs if he ever was comfortable?

Who was the more overall genius?

That's a loaded question - they both wrote a bunch of popular pop songs. Certainly Paul would be considered the better musician - could have played bass, drums or electric guitar for number of bands - was better than the other Beatles at their instrument, with he and George probably equal on the lead guitar. For my money, he was the best lead singer in the Beatles. Paul is the better live performer.

Wilson is probably the better producer, with Paul relying on George Martin for much of the Beatles era - although he went on to produce a lot as he got older and further away from the Beatles.

I think the volume of Paul's work, and the length of time he was productive edge him to the victory. Wilson is certainly highly influential. His reclusiveness and stagefright probably preclude his true genius from being fairly evaluated.

I can't speak on his mental state, but he has still made some great music post Pet Sounds and continues to do so.

Overall McCartney.

But musical composition of Brian Wilson is better than anything McCartney ever did. Even the early stuff.

Anyone who doesn't say McCartney doesn't know what they are talking about.

ETA. I like the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds is in my top ten favorite albums of all time. Brian did and does always look tortured. I think he was and is tortured somewhat by fame and genius. He is an introvert who obviously never fully embraced or got comfortable with the fame side of the equation. He was a genius and almost appears somewhat autistic to me. Idiot savant somewhat maybe? Like a musical Rainman.
