Hendrix saw them and said Gibbons was the best blues player he'd seen.

I grew up on ZZ Top; one of my Dad's top-three favorite bands. I always appreciate seeing/hearing/reading some of the history behind the journey taken by Gibbons/Beard/Hill on the way to Rio Grande and Tres Hombres...

I love ZZ Top as much as the next guy, but I honestly have no clue which one he is.

Glad it's not just me. Here's his high school yearbook photo but I'm not sure that clears it up much. I'm gonna say 2nd from the left.

Slight hijack, but I was hog hunting out in San Saba right down the road from a Boy Scout Camp called Camp Billy Gibbons.

I actually thought it was the musician's camp until I looked it up.

I'm a child of the 80's, it was an awesome discovery when I first got ZZ Top Six Pack (their first six albums). I can listen to it from start to finish.

ZZ Top was a favorite of mind in the seventies. Got see them one time in Natchitoches (of all places) at a small auditorium on NSU's campus. Sat in the orchestra pit right in front of them and shot the shite with Gibbons between songs. They blew the roof off of that place. The loudest thing that ever had been in the auditorium.

What year? I think my brother was at that show. He was at NSU from '73-'77, and told me the plaster actually started to fall from the ceiling because it was so loud.

I heard an interview with Billy, and he said he and Hendrix hung out quite a bit during a tour.

Here's another pic from an NPR piece. The boy's trying to grow a beard.

Before ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons (second from right) was in the more psychedelic Moving Sidewalks.

He'll never be able to pull that look off.
