Before that they were a San Francisco jam band that no one cared about.

Joe Walsh joining The Eagles. He admitted he did it for the money.
All rock/pop musicians are in it for the money. Is that "selling out" though? Did Joe compromise himself in the process?
I mean - I can listen to Life in the Fast Lane (Henley/Frey on the lyrics, and Felder did some solid work in there as well, but that was a straight, old school Joe riff), In the City (technically a Joe solo song, but he wrote it while he was in the Eagles and they "covered" it) and Pretty Maids All in a Row - Joe did some of his best composition as an Eagle.

Why is it always a chicken dinner?

glam influences.
I dunno man, everything I've read and heard Thin Lizzy and UFO were the two biggest influences on DL, the frustrating part was they had the personnel to go hard.

Thin Lizzy, yes, but I think Mott the Hoople, Queen and David Bowie were even higher - particularly on Elliot and Collen (after they fired Willis, they hired Collen more or less directly from Girl - he went to Def Leppard and singer Phil Lewis ultimately ended up in L.A. Guns).
Now, Clark was a straight blues rocker, in the mold of Page or even a hybrid of Malcolm and Angus - listen to the first 2 albums where it was him and Willis and you can most definitely hear that.

Yeah - for the Pyromania/Hysteria era - hard to imagine a better duo than Collen/Clark from straight talent - I mean, up there with the other NWOBHM bands Priest and Maiden - for sure. (ETA: For the record, Vivian Campbell isn't a downgrade from Clark - in fact, should have been the catalyst for them to go harder, but by that time, Adrenalize was already out and the pattern was set. They tried to do something different with Slang, but got slammed for it, commercially and critically.)
I love them, but money talks, you know.

Eagles w/ Walsh > Eagles w/out Walsh

I'm no Aerosmith historian, but from what I understand, when they finally got clean for good, it killed their ability to write new material (plus they were getting pretty fricking old). Prior to that point they wrote all their own music, but post-drugs-and-alcohol, they mostly recorded stuff others wrote for them.

The artist whose name appears in both images.

Black Eye Peas.
They started out as a legit group in the same vein as ATCQ. Behind the Front was a good album. After that, they took it in a most cringeworthy direction.

Don't y'all be too hard on Rod Stewart.
The Stones stole Ron Wood from him. Pretty much destroyed his sound.
