Brian Jones Even Mick admits that the Stones lost an ability to stretch more toward rock without his influence. Their catalogue is impressive but a little more Brian and the variety would have been even more impressive

I mentioned Brian earlier. While he was a musical genius, he needed to get cleaned up because from late '67-'69, he didn't contribute much. His last great performance was the slide on "No Expectations". Wish he would've got his act together because I bet he and Hendrix would have done something - they were great friends.

With that said, I love the Mick Taylor era. The run from '69 to '74 is their high watermark IMO.

The guy from INXS seemed like he still had a lot more to give.

Shannon Hoon for me as far as biggest loss while I was currently listening. That was a major bummer when he died. Other than Shannon my top 5 people who died with the most left to give inpo:

Duane Allman
Keith Whitley
Carter Stanley
Towns Van Zandt
Hank

Eta- 1 to coke/heroin, 1 to a motorbike and 4 to whiskey.

Best thing to happen to this board. Although, I'm pretty sure a couple of them are creating alters and trolling here.

Kurt Cobain was a great songwriter, Hendrix wasn't even a good songwriter. I'd rather listen to a good song than watch a guy play a guitar solo for 10 minutes

Jesus fricking christ. This about sums up everything that is wrong with this board.

You'll have to excuse me if I don't take any opinion you have about music seriously. Don't ever respond to me again. I don't discuss music with musical midgets.

Yeah, you've said this before, and you'll have to excuse me if I don't care and I kindly disregard your request for nonresponse (which, it should be noted, is pretty silly).

Again, if you think Hendrix was a better songwriter than Cobain, you're a moron, plain and simple. You can take that as seriously as you want, but it is certainly the truth.

People don't realize just how far ahead of his time he was when he came out. His sound was groundbreaking and almost every great artist since has cited him as an influence.

....because of the way he played guitar. Nobody is denying his guitar chops.

You seem to be conflating the issues here in this discussion, which is weird because they're pretty straightforward.

How about instead of just going with this same conclusion you list the great songs Hendrix wrote.

And then you'll start listing songs, realize that three songs into it you're listing songs that aren't any good. Bri guy already tried this exercise.

Bold as Love

If 6 was 9
Castles Made of Sand

That's only on one album. I could go on.

Damn, you're stupid. Your mentality is that just because you are unfamiliar with something or maybe simply dislike the style, it either sucks or doesn't exist. That's a caveman monkey mentality.

Or you're trolling. In which case, good one, sir.

My mentality is that Kurt Cobain wrote better songs than Jimi Hendrix. As a result, I think that your mentality is a caveman monkey mentality. So there you have it.

Yep. And Cobains band used guitar feedback/distortion that Hendrix pioneered.

Supported by substantively nothing. You back your position with patently false statements that clearly show that you are unfamiliar with the subject matter which you so authoritatively argue. It's the simple minded, child's approach.

Making false statements and presenting opinions, at best, as strong irrefutable facts and then refusing to acknowledge it when your points have in fact been refuted doesn't win any arguments. It doesn't persuade any thinking people. It's the strategy of argument by stubbornness. It's refusing to have an actual conversation, until the other people get tired of trying to talk to a rock. It is actually a common tactic of trolls.
