So much wrong here. At least Hendrix could actually play a guitar.

And have you ever heard, The Wind Cries Mary? May This Be Love? Little Wing? Wait Till Tomorrow? Castles Made of Sand? Voodoo Chile? Gypsy Eyes? Crosstown Traffic"?

The longest of those songs is 5:12
The intro alone for Little Wing is better than anything Cobain ever did

Eh, he has a point. Hendrix was definitely not a great songwriter.

And the songs you listed are definitely not better than anything Cobain did. That is complete nonsense. Crosstown Traffic is better than Smells Like Teen Spirit? Huh? Please punch yourself in the dick.

Duane Allman. Dude was only 24 when he died! Imagine how much music he had left in him.

To all the people bitching about Hendrix, go listen to Band of Gypsies and then get back to me. Machine Gun is the greatest performance by any musician ever. Period.

Ill put Jimi first, probably cause I'm most familiar. All tied for second for me are Holly, Duan, Otis, Janis and Bradley Nowell. I'm sure I missed some.

I put Hendrix up there because what he did was so original IMO and he made phenomenal music with many different groups.

I don't know how much songwriting and all Duane did but he is certainly a candidate.

Holly was coming up right at the beginning and who knows how the landscape would have been different had he stayed around.

Robert Johnson

Eta: Maybe Keith Whitley, or was he around to long before death?

You'll have to excuse me if I don't take any opinion you have about music seriously. Don't ever respond to me again. I don't discuss music with musical midgets.

People don't realize just how far ahead of his time he was when he came out. His sound was groundbreaking and almost every great artist since has cited him as an influence.

Ian Curtis mentioned a few times. Without Ian Curtis' death there is no New Order. And to me, New Order > Joy Division so not a huge loss for music from that point of view.

One of those bands that are more popular than they should be, because of the death. Don't see what's special about Nowell, but that's me. To mention him in the BIGGEST loss to music? LOL

Rape me wasn't even one of Nirvana's best songs and you put it against the only good song that Hendrix ever wrote.

We get it, you have extremely shitty taste in music. Comparing Cobain to Hendrix is laughable.

Name a Cobain tune still being played either commercially or on the radio.

Allow an observer to settle this.

Kurt Cobain fricking sucks. He is not even a faint fart in the direction of the flame Jimi burned.

Again, Kurt Cobain fricking sucks. If he were still alive today, no one would give a shite about him. Fact.

Syd Barret

The world is a far, far better place due to Syd leaving floyd when he did. Even if he hadn't gone off the deep end mentally, their music just was kinda blah. No real direction, no form, just 30 minutes of jamming out on acid. When Gilmour stepped in and him and waters took creative control it gave us what we all know and love as floyd, which obviously wouldn't have happened with syd.

Brian Jones

Even Mick admits that the Stones lost an ability to stretch more toward rock without his influence. Their catalogue is impressive but a little more Brian and the variety would have been even more impressive.
