Best regional band from the 80s or 90s that never broke nationally

The Smiths vs Replacements thread started me thinking about this. There were a lot of great bands working the southeast circuit in the 80s and 90s. I remember Will and the Bushmen, from Mobile, even had a music video on MTV in the early 90s, but they never broke nationally.
Who were some of the best bands from the gulf coast that never hit the big time?

The Cold would probably be my favorite. Also The Judys (from Houston) were pretty good.
Then of course there's always The shite Dogs.

Older folks in Mobile always rave about Wet Willie. They had that one big song, but they've been pretty lackluster every time I've seen them.
I don't "get" it, but this thread made me think of them.

I second the Cold from New Orleans,
The Sheiks were great live.
The Red Rockers had some success with China on MTV but never did much after that
Pylon

White Animals - Nashville
Drivin n Cying - Atlanta
Jason and the Scorchers - Nashville
Fetching Bones - Chapel Hill
OP said Gulf Coast bands but thinking of some great bands from the South that should have been bigger but never broke out.

WW was big when I was in high school. Listen to CDB's "The South's Gonna Do It Again," all of the bands named in that song helped start the southern rock genre. There were other bands not named in that song that had more distinguished careers, and we're a part of the beginnings of southern rock, but WW was also there at the start.
Saw Jimmy Hall on one of the cable music channels a few months back, as part of a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute.

Drivin' and Crying got a lot of airplay in Mobile. I thought Jason and the Scorchers were hilarious. Alternative country. Loved "Telling White Lies."

TenSixtyFive had some decent local talent. Crowned Jewels, East LA Fadeaway (despite being a cover band), and even Muscadine who I don't particularly care for.

The Maxx from Atlanta was one of the best R$B bands I ever saw live.

Great frontman, and their lead player was legit. Saw them in D.C. in 1984.

The Cold
The Producers
The Sheiks
Jupiter Coyote
And to the Wet Willie comment---I just listened to one of their later albums called "Manorisms"...the tune "Street Corner Serenade" is just an upbeat, happy, well written tune!!... LINK
