Who you got? There were a lot of good ones. Mercury, Tyler, Gahan, Hutchence, Steve Perry.

1. Freddy Mercury (by a long shot)
2. Axel Rose

Black Francis
I could think of tons of other great ones, but this was still easy for me.

Bono 1985 Live aid (skip to the 7:00 minute mark). this is widely recognized as the moment that launched u2 to superstardom.
vs.
Freddie Mercury same concert. Freddie was at the end of his performance life here, retiring just a year later due to health issues.
both could make personal connections with 70,000 people at once. in my view fm is the best front man of any decade, tho.

Pretty tough question when you think about the different genres and how the 80's really pushed the image of a front man.
David Lee Roth, Michael Stipe, Chuck D, Bono, Henry Rollins, Axl, Mercury, Vince Neil, Robert Smith.
but I'm going with Boy George.

I just don't remember him being ever being that spectacular or standing out other than having a big schnoz. He was actually pretty bland. I'd put any hair metal frontman over him.

Hard to argue this.

Same answer for 70s, 90s, and 2000s: Paul Stanley.

Mercury is probably the greatest front man of all time....
So he would def take the 80's

I've seen the Pixies a couple times and Black Francis never stood out to me as a frontman... Great at what he did, but I just don't remember anything special about his stage presence...
