I'm 31 and couldn't have said this any better. Completely apathetic towards rock these days. I've tried listening to a lot of these bands and they just sound like average crap to me. Getting old.

I have found some good stuff, but most of he music produced today is pretty bland for my taste. You really have to dig to find good stuff, go through a healluva lot of crap, even more middling stuff to find a couple of gems. They are out there, but buried.

The indie scene basically became the mainstream. Go figure.

Don't get how Jack White and his two backup bands haven't been mentioned yet.

How can no one have said Kings of Leon? They are fantastic, almost classic rock good!

"Rock" is too broad to narrow down to one artist. Everything from Vampire Weekend to RHCP to Nikelback can be classified as "rock" and I don't put them all in the same category.

And is Muse really that big of a hoopla? Just seem so...average to me

The Black Keys.....but I prefer their raw blues-rock of the past.

I really like some Phoenix. They've been around since the early mid 00s but still kick arse.

I have to give my vote to Foo Fighters, but if you really want to narrow it down to bands that originated in the last decade and still have hits, I'd go with either Rise Against or Chevelle. Gaslight Anthem and Mumford and Sons are good answers as well.

Cmon now. Kings first two-three albums are phenomenal. Their new stuff is complete shite but Aha Shake Heartbreak, Youth and Young Manhood and Because of the Times are all great

eta: And by great, I mean better than Japandroids

Saying their new stuff is complete shite is a bit strong. There literally wasn't a bad song on their last two albums.

It's ok for bands to go mainstream. Doesn't mean they suck, and no one here looks cooler saying so. Despite obvious popular belief. And don't get your panties in a wad that wasn't directed specifically at you!

Let me guess. You're one of those "They Sold Out!" kinda guys and only prefer their music when they were underproduced and out of a garage?

The last two Kings of Leon albums were excellent, IMO.

The stigma on this board about KoL and their "selling out" astonishes me.

The stigma on this board about KoL and their "selling out" astonishes me.

I've defending Green Day from sell out charges consistently on this board, but KoL are a different kettle of fish. They really are sellouts. They took everything interesting about their sound and chucked it overboard in order to make bland records to appeal to the mainstream. They completely changed their sound, and not in a way that shows musical growth.

Then they took potshots at their old fans who supported them when they were nobodies. They can get bent.

Their new stuff fricking sucks. It's pretty much the epitome of bland, soulless, corporate rock. they no longer write songs, they are just pushing product.

I actually like for obscure bands to become successful and make lots of money. I'm happy for the Black Keys, and I happily buy up each of their albums. I'm pumped the Avett Brothers are now getting mainstream success.

But Kings of Leon? frick those guys. frick them in their fricking holes. They are the worst kind of sellout. They just plain suck now.

Disagree.

This is what's great about this board. Music is something that most everyone will never agree upon and no one go Ted Bundy crazy on you like the Poli board.

I like the last two albums they pushed out. I don't know who produced them. I don't know where they came from. I don't know what went down. But the SOUND of the music was alright to me.

Now, to be fair, I've never really listened to their old stuff. I'm not exactly a musical connoisseur and half the bands on this board that are mentioned, I've never heard of.....because I don't go out of my way to find "underground" bands.

Unfortunately, I have young girls so I'm doomed to listening to pop on the radio when we're in the car. So, like I said, my musical choices aren't very broad nor refined.

But I do have my 7 year old jamming to 90's alternative. She does enjoy that.
