"Ain't No Man"
"Satan Pulls the Strings"

I am all about a group changing their sound a bit if it is something new and different, but one of my biggest pet peeves is a band asking fans to embrace a new sound they're trying, and then they end up making more pop bullshite....and this song sounds like more pop bullshite. You will notice right off the bat that it has some clap track sounding drum pattern, which feels like a staple for any dump pop song trying to hook dumb people. I dunno, maybe I am wrong, and I will hope the new album isn't a total sell out, but I just hate this song and I can't make myself like it.

Video is in the link:

Turrible.

I really love the songs from The Carpenter. I tried to go backwards, and didn't really like anything I heard very much.

I don't think it will be. We already know Satan Pulls the Strings is a great song.

I don't particularly care for this new song but i think it will be better live, like most of their stuff.

I was disappointed when I first heard it as well, but is starting to grow on me. I saw a video of a live performance of it and it helped changed my opinion. I think this song actually might get some radio play, and maybe that's what they were going for. I've seen some of the other songs performed and they will have that typical Avett sound. I can't wait to hear Satan Pulls the Strings

I think they peaked at Emotionalism. I and Love and You and The Carpenter were very good, but definitely a decline for me. Magpie...I am not a fan. I wish they would go back to their original sound instead of trying to go more mainstream.

I liked Magpie a lot, I think it was one of my favorites. Maybe the album will be better. I still love the Avett brothers and want to go see them here in Dallas.

I've seen then a few times and they were great live. I just don't like what I've heard recently. I would have thought Rick Ruben would have given them an edgier, rougher sound; but it looks like he is turning them into a pop outfit. This latest single might be the worst Avett brothers songs I've heard.

I first heard this song a week ago on the local alternative station. Like others im not really digging it yet but maybe it will grow on me. I've seen them twice and will go again because they are always great no matter what they play.

Emotionalism is so great and I'll defend I and Love and You as being just as great as the early stuff, just with a pop sheen (and more piano). But what in the fricking frick is this fricking shite?

That was awful.

Not a fan. How they opened for Stones in Raleigh is beyond comprehension. Carolinas actually have musicians you've heard of and worthy of joining them on stage. But these clowns...

I put off listening to this thinking the criticism would be overblown. Pop hooks and clap tracks are guilty pleasures.

Anyway, I was wrong. This is dogshit.

I have to eat my own words. The album version they released of Satan Pulls the Strings is terrible.

As a huge Avett fan, catching between 4-10 shows a year and my primary "drive to go see" band...

This new sound is garbage. Both singles were atrocious, Satan is decent live but otherwise this whole fricking experiment is a waste.

Jim Avett is playing here next week, may just ask him what he thinks...

I as well. What a disappointment. That song kicks arse live, and then they completely screw it up.

I saw them a few weeks ago and they put on a great show as usual. Them live is what people want to hear, not this over-produced garbage. Rick Rubin

The live version is light years better. The studio version sounds like a frickin Big and Rich song.

They're just hoping some ad firm puts the song in a commercial so they can earn some $$$
