Started off at the pro ject DC carbon... Then that rose a bit to the nomad. $400-700
If I remember correctly I think that nomad had went on sale for $699...

Can't remember what you suggested on the phono right off hand. I'll have to go through to old post

My favorite phono stage under $500 is the Lehman Black Cube...it scary good, and has settings for MM and MC.

Just looked it up and the Lehman black is the one you said...

I'm good with vandersteens, quad vena... Just not dead set on a turntable. If the Lehman is that much better than the bellari then I'll guess that's the way to go.

I say get the Project Carbon unless you are willing to spend $850+ on a table/cart. That starts to open a few more options, such as VPI or Clearaudio (German).

The Lehman is DEAD quiet...no hiss, hum, or soft static sound when the volume is turned all the way up--just black.

Remember that you can cut deals when ordering. If you can find a place that has all of the stuff you want, do a package deal and try for 15-20% off plus shipping.

So just the regular project carbon.... Or the project carbon DC, usb?

Also... Just curious, but how does that rpm 1 carbon compare?

And yeh... I remember that you said to try to get 15-20% off.

Also... I'm looking at it says the quad vena is not available for further discounts... It's 899
There is a demo one available for $719. Are amps ok to buy as a demo?

Did you align your Ortofon and or did a dealer do it?

Regular carbon should do.

Your call on new vs. used. I prefer new--just hard to beat perfection out of the box for a few bucks more.

The base model carbon and add the "Puck-it" center weight.

If you really want to add more, go for the Sumiko Blue Point Evo III cartridge for $499--it's a killer!

Gonna see how this rolls first before adding a cartridge. If I really want to get into it at a later date then I'll more than likely just upgrade turntables.

I thought about going the elac speaker route and I think it was maybe he peach tree you had recommended. But, and correct me if I'm wrong.... If I go vandersteens now I could upgrade the table and still be okay with the vandersteens with say a 800-1200 table.
If I'd go the elac route do you think they would be okay as well?
I could see myself getting a better table maybe in a year or 2... If rather not have to upgrade speakers and possibly an amp as well if I upgraded the table.

If you want a killer table/cart combo for the $800 range, you should consider the one my friend is selling. I posted it a page back at the top. It is loaded and retailed for around $1800...and I can attest that it has been well cared for. He is a hard core audiophile that builds his own speakers and does the low powered tube thing.

If you are interested in speaking with him, let me know and I can get you in touch with him.

His name is Dave and he owns Lakeside Camera and Imaging on Severn across from Lakeside Mall in Metairie. He will be more than happy to let you test it out--lives in River Ridge.

If I looked at that table I would still need to get the Lehman right?

The Lehman or any other phono stage. You can run with a Bellari if the table and the Lehmann start to get too expensive.

I am partial to the Lehman because it is SOOOO quiet and detailed for the money...
