Yea! I love the pops/crackles. It's the sign of pure sound and an indication you're listening to the medium

Well...not really true. You aren't supposed to hear pops if you have good equipment and the record is clean and in good condition.

Though I get what you are saying. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Not a problem--it's a hobby for me. I sort of enjoy it.

Do you convert any of your vinyl to mp3? I would like to do this by converting my vinyl to mp3 and loading them to my ipod.

I mean, I'm not hearing pops/crackles during music play, it's only between songs that I hear some pops.

Don't know if that makes a difference or not but I do feel like actually listening to "music" when I hear them over when I listen to digital, if that makes sense. There's a certain ritual to listening to vinyl that I love.

I don't convert or listen to anything in mp3 format. If I download music, it's in hi rez (24 bit/96k lossless). I don't rip vinyl to digital format because that undermines the entire purpose of listening to vinyl to begin with--never leaving the analog state.

As soon as you convert to digital, the analog signal becomes a series of 0's and 1's. The problem with digital comes in when you have to convert that series of bits back down to analog. This is done with a DAC, or Digital to Analog Converter. This happens even in an iPod (it has a DAC built in-albeit a very cheap one). All CD players have a DAC as well. It must convert the digital read by the laser to a voltage signal (analog) that can be sent to the Pre amp.

When converting from digital to analog, many problems arise, one being jitter. This is the lack of accuracy in the clocking of the converters and can result in smearing and a harsh sound. That is why some digital devices can sound clinical and vinyl has that sort of warm sound.

The more $$ you spend on a DAC, the less the jitter and the smoother and more complete conversion of the sound wave back down to analog.

Don't know who downvoted you, but thanks for your response. I have spent the last couple of hours taking advantage of the free digital download included with many of my newer albums. Got about 20 new albums on my ipod now.

What is run the jewels? I saw they were signing albums recently at Good Records but I had never heard of them. That St Paul album is great.

It's a rap collaboration between Killer Mike & El-P. If you enjoy rap, I'd recommend them. Run The Jewels 2 has been receiving a bunch of accolades as album of the year or, at least, in the top 5.

When I hook up the orbit turntable to my 5.1 system (Energy speakers + Yamaha receiver) -- how good will the music quality be?

It sounds fantastic. If the volume sounds low it means you need a phono pre amp. Not a problem at all. Scroll back a couple of pages and agentpurple had some posts about the one he got that seems to work well.

I hooked up the DJ Pre II (bought from Amazon but same one Orbit recommends on their Webstore) and it sounds amazing; not sure how it would sound on a 5.1 (I'm running through Swan M10s which are 2.1).

Do you have the Energy Take 5 system? Considering that for my surround sound on my new living room. How do you like them?

EDIT: I'm proud to be post number 333.

My copy of the Ryan Adams album Easy Tiger came into today. Trying to get a hold of all of his albums on vinyl. Right now I have the following:

Ashes & Fire
Cardinology
Demoilition
Easy Tiger
Follow the Lights
Gold
Love Is Hell
Ryan Adams
Jacksonville City Nights

I have Cold Roses on the way too.

The album Easy Tiger is good but it came in the worst packaging ever. There is really no record cover. It is only this poster, the vinyl record, and this plastic cover that is very flimsy. Honestly it looks like shite and could get damaged being moved in and out of the record shelf. It's hard to explain how it looks, but I do not like it.

I do Amazon if I am ordering online, but I have also done eBay. I usually go buy most of my records from the record store though. I typically do Amazon for online because I have prime and they are sometimes sent next day.

I've been buying most my stuff online because the labels sell it cheaper than in store but I still love the ritual of flipping through vinyl in a brick 'n mortar.

Good luck on finding "Heartbreaker"...It doesnt look like they pressed many vinyl copies.

Hopefully they will re-release it on vinyl, but so far my research hasn't come up with anything..

EBay had one for like $300 a while back, but that was all I could find.
