Nutshell

What an all-time song. Conveys so much in so few actual vocal lines.

Yep—they sum it all up in a nutshell.

You can see it in his face (despite the shades) at 1:55, after a set of "ooh ooh"s, essentially, "I'm trying my best, but I'm not going to make it at the end of all of this."

I wasn't sure until I saw confirmation, recently, that he was jonesing pretty bad leading up to the show and fixed a few minutes before the start.

Heroin is a motherfricker.

This is the story I've always read about it. Cantrell was sick as shite before the show too.

quote:

By all accounts, Staley was high but just high enough so that he wasn’t actively in withdrawal and could function in public. Songwriter and guitarist Jerry Cantrell had eaten a bad hot dog and was barely staving off the effects of food poisoning (if you’re watching the show, you can spot a trash can next to him). Mike Inez was trolling the newly shorn members of Metallica, who were sitting right up front, with a message scrawled on the front of his bass: “FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS GET FRIENDS HAIRCUTS…”. Studio execs would be forgiven for being more than a little concerned.

I was listening to their albums on spotify Friday night

The lyrics are so dark and deep

Really like Jar of Flies. No Excuses is a great song

They had to do almost ten takes to get Sludge Factory right iirc.

At least he laughed a bit before Over Now and in the Sludge Factory he screwed up.
Hands down best Unplugged.

I Stay Away is great too.

I've been on a AIC kick lately. Post-breakup music.

One of the greatest songs ever created. It's a masterpiece.

He's no Layne Staley but Corey Taylor's version is pretty good all things considered

It's my favorite as well.

And it wasn't even a single off the album.

It is. 1st half of the song is great, I just never liked the 2nd half.

I feel the opposite, second part is my favorite.

That’s when the undeniable bluesy side of Layne was able to shine.

Also I’ve never looked it up to confirm who is playing harmonica on that track, but they are my hero.

The AIC unplugged album, for me, is a top 5 album of all time. Layne Staley poured his entire soul out into the microphone that night.

I can definitely understand people feeling that way. It's all AIC in the end.
