Holy Wave
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Damien Jurado
Night Beats
Parquet Courts
Black Moth Super Rainbow
Jagwar Ma

Some good EP's and singles released this year too; Pond, L.A. Witch, FIDLAR, etc.

ETA: White Denim was probably the biggest letdown.

More filler, less killer.
Giving it a few more listens and hoping the non-hits grow on me. Seems a bit top-heavy on first and second listen. Still good though, by all means.

I could never really get into Painting With, which is sad because it is pretty much the only AC album I feel that way about, at least starting with Sung Tongs. Still love FloriDada and a handful of the other tracks are solid, but it is just a touch too busy and similar sounding for me.

I'd strongly recommended any AC fans check out Deakin's solo album from this year. Deakin always seemed to have the reputation of AC's Ringo, but that seems to be unwarranted because he released a stunningly beautiful album. Anyone that loves chill Animal Collective should be a fan. The closer, Good House, is my SOTY.

Hiss Messenger - not digging either

Sturgill for sure...

I will continue on after work from other poster's suggestions

Damn, I was thinking you meant Dan Deacon when you said "Deakin", haha. I didn't realize that he put out a solo album. Giving it a listen now and so far it is great. Thanks!

Finally someone else who doesn't get it .. Basically same thoughts as I had earlier in the thread

Car Seat Headrest sounds like a less talented Dinosaur Jr.

Bon Iver sounds like a dude singing over random noise.

Parquet Courts sounds like a less interesting British version of Pavement.

also

GOAT is an obvious rip off of Black Angels
Jagwar Ma is trying to by Tame Implala and sucking at it

Will continue my analysis

You've gotta be kidding me with this. Ok, he has somewhat of a similar voice and some of his stuff is lo-fi, so that = a less talented Dinosaur Jr.??

Yeap. Basically that is my opinion. Their song "Fill In The Blank" has the most plays on spotify. To me it sounds very similar to "Feel the Pain" by Dinosaur Jr just not as good.

Not to be a snob, but you're judging albums by listening to the top song on Spotify?

Yep, and you are entitled to it.

So you listened to 1 song that you think sort of sounds like a Dinosaur Jr song (I disagree) and based your opinion on that?

Look, I'm a big Dinosaur Jr fan and I just don't see the connection. If you don't like a band's sound, then yeah, don't listen to them. I'd try listening to the rest of Teens of Denial and form an opinion off of that.

And here are A few jazz albums I liked:

Brad Mehldau Trio - Blues and Ballads
BADBADNOTGOOD - IV
Marquis Hill - The Way We Play

EDIT: Kendrick Lamar as well, as he has jazz tendencies.
