I think that they get a good bit of respect.

They are all very talented, and they put on a hell of a show. I have never seen a bad UM show, and I've been seeing them for over ten years now.

Having said that, I do have trouble listening to them a bunch in my car or at home. Its just kind of too wanky for me.

UM has talent per se but has no soul whatsoever. Too robotic for me. I'll never pay money to see them again.

They don't get much respect because they're fricking terrible. The only time I saw them I left after 3 or 4 songs.

I like UM but I'll be the first to admit that they can't sing worth shite. Same could be said for SCI too (especially Nershi).

Early 90's to mid 2000s Cheese>UM at any point of their existence.

I find UM more interesting, cheese just doesn't have the guitar in place to be one of my favorites. Neither is UM, i don't really listen to either other than when i go to one of their concerts.

I am still going to see SCI over the fourth with some friends though, not saying they suck I just prefer a little more action

I have to disagree here...they're fluffed all over the place big time.

Outside of any Dead incarnation/Phish/Panic, they're by far the most popular "jam band".

Although I may be underestimating SCI's fanbase, but Umph has a pretty big following.

Not a fan myself.

Honestly i think they are on the same level, but i just prefer the UM sound more. I wouldn't break my back to travel for either, but will catch them if I'm gonna be around and like seeing them on festival lineups.

I kind of the SCI had a bigger following, but I don't really know if that's true or not.

Disco Biscutis dont get enough respect in the south. Particle is another great band out there not too many people have heard about. Tea Leaf Green and Hot Buttered Rum have been two of my favorite shows that i have been to. hard to beat some good jamgrass

To be fair that's because they barely ever play down here. The recent ATL run was the first of its kind in years.

I saw them as the opener for Ozric Tentacles several years ago. I had never heard of them but they were pretty good.

What is this "jam band" music you speak of?

Is it some form of that loud rock and roll music all the kids are worshiping nowadays?

That's fair. It is kind of apples and oranges to compare them anyway.

Nice I'm pretty excited, never been to that venue. And because of this post I've decided I am going to take off the whole week and go visit my family in bham and see UM on Thursday as well.
