Prince and Nuno's solos

fricking

I submit that no guitar genius has ever looked more pimp than Prince in that video. I love the look on his face. He was having as much fun as my kids at Disney World.

When a musician is having fun on stage, that joy can be infectious.

Not a big Prince fan.

A decent guitar player.

I love binary reasoning.

Because position 1 is on, all others must be off.

Hendrix was great for his day, but there are a ton of guys that would sit his arse down today.

Sure, technique wise. Would they be as innovative and raw as he was? I highly doubt it.

Chris Broderick of Megadeth has a degree in classical music and has the miserable job of emulating Marty Friedman, and Chris Poland who both have very unique and recognizable sounds to their playing. Played with Nevermore as a touring guitarist because they stupidl record albums that they cant play live. Heres some craziness from him.

on top of everything he was one of the first to use and edit the fractal preamps which later became the AxeFX. If you dont know about AxeFX, its the preamp that can plug into your computer to record, DI out into PA, or put in front of a power amp to play through cabs. Its a top of the line, do everything amp.

there are dozens of guitarists on youtube right now that are technically generations better than him, and every bit as innovative.

I'll let you know if they have impacted music the way he has.

typical jimi fanboy. when anyone questions his ability compared to current guitarists, the argue switches to power of influence. which has NOTHING to do with his effectiveness using his instrument.

Lets go race cars. you can have a model A, which has the most INFLUENCE... i'll drive a zonda, which has no "soul" but is all technicality.

see how silly it sounds. technicality is a poor mans way of referencing guitar ability when their favorite guitarist cant play that way. its just placing your fingers in the correct way every time, but for some reason... jimi fans dont see technical playing as talent.

I always find it hilarious to see people's faces when I say John Mayer is my favorite guitarist.

Everyone knows Your Body is a Wonderland and daughters.

I just send them to his "Try" Album to shut them up.

Prince and Mark Knopfler are the greatest guitarists I have ever seen.

I always get the stink eye when I bring Prince into these discussions.

Like the article says, Prince is not an arrogant bastard, and it hurts his legacy.

Most of the guys that are generally recognized as tits. . .are seen as such, because they were self-promoters who beat you over the head with it.

He played 80's pop/r&b. He was seen as playing a generic style that focused on image over substance.

Guys like Prince force people to reassess that which had been written off.

I thought the same thing after I saw Cranberries live.

Delores gets alot of credit for her vocals, but she is electrifying live.

For drummers, I don't get why Tre Cool doesn't get more credit. He is one of the best drummer's in America. . .but will never be known as such for the band he is in.

Mayer is my favorite current guitarist/musician. The guy is incredible. I've seen him live twice and I've yet to see a live show that has impressed me more. He, Derek Trucks, and Joe Bonamassa would get my vote for best of this generation. Just an opinion.

To the Jimi fanboy remark. Come on, man. I am a fan of the guy, but to say he hasn't had a major impact on guitar is absurd. There are many, many guitarist that are better technically. Many he would never be able to touch. But, Jimi absolutely had soul to him, and he is as influential as it gets. The guy went places not seen in that time period.

I really find the soul remark funny because that's how he played. I can listen to Van Halen and respect it for how technical it may be, but give me a blues guitarist that actually plays with feeling any day. BB King can give me chills playing 3 notes, while the guy doing sweeps leaves me wondering if there is any feeling to it.

We all have different tastes, I am just saying Jimi is as influential as it gets to me. He is one of the reasons I play guitar.

Both incredibly talented. Knopfler is some of the most tasteful playing I've ever heard. Down to the Waterline will always be one of my favorites.

I was wrong on the binary.

However, no-one could hold Hendrix's jock.

I started listening to Jimi at 11 yrs old.

Buy Monterey, Woodstock and Isle of Wight DVD's

And get back with me.

Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Third stone from the sun.

Recorded in 1966. The ultimate breakthrough guitarist.

This is stupid reasoning. So, if Hendrix were a modern day quitarist, he would have stopped evolving and improving?

And, there's probably a lot of computer dudes out there sitting in their bedrooms who could sit Bill Gates' "arse down" technically, but what the frick have they done?
